Edge 1040 Solar and Fenix 7X SS - FirstBeat metrics

Hi, I have a Fenix 7X SS and an Edge 530. I'm considering changing the Edge 530 to an Edge 1040 Solar but I have some questions.

The Edge 530 is limited compared to the Fenix 7X SS when it comes to FirstBeat metrics, in other words the Edge 1040 should be as comprehensive as the Fenix 7X SS for FirstBeat metrics.

The Fenix 7X SS I use it in everyday life and run while I need a bike computer for training and the safety of not having a device on my wrist that in the event of a fall could break or create physical injuries.

The questions are:

Does the Edge 1040 Solar have all the FirstBeat metrics of the Fenix 7X SS?

If I used the Edge 1040 Solar for cycling workouts and the Fenix 7X SS for everyday life (running, walking, sleeping, stress, body battery, etc.), would the data be completed without missing values?

Does the edge 1040 Solar take the FIrstBeat data from the Fenix 7X SS and plan workouts based on the state of health of that moment?

Thanks to all those who want to enlighten me on this choice.

  • I’m also really interested in this topic. Specially with the new training readyness feature and race date planing of the forerunner 955 which will come to the fenix modells.

Will the 1040 be synced (I mean really synced!!)  and giving than the same strukture workouts?

With my Edge 830 and fenix 6 it was not that nice in the past…

  • Hello. Nobody knows anything about this cuestion?

  • I have an Edge 1040 and Forerunner 965. I assume Fenix 7 would be similar, but I don't know for sure.

    > Does the Edge 1040 Solar have all the FirstBeat metrics of the Fenix 7X SS?

Which FirstBeat metrics are you looking for? Edge does not track daily health metrics like sleep score or heart rate variability status, but does derive some training metrics from heart rate variability, like stamina or performance condition.

I use my Edge for cycling workouts and my Forerunner for everything else (24/7 health metrics and swimming). They work reasonably well together. Cycling activities recorded on my Edge are visible on my Forerunner (usually, rarely sometimes some individual activities wouldn't sync) and marked on some health graphs in Garmin Connect. Training load also seems to be in sync. But I need to start my cycling activities also on my Forerunner to properly record activity heart rate for 24/7 monitoring (whether from a strap or optical monitor, otherwise it often records nonsense). I then discard those Forerunner activities instead of saving those.

There is no training readiness on Edge 1040. Suggested workouts are somewhat similar (esp. for base/rest vs interval workouts pattern), which seems to confirm that some things like training load are in sync, but not identical (e.g., completely different types of interval workouts are proposed), which suggests that some things are not synced or are off.

    I hope this helps :-)

  • Thank you so much, marcin. Raised hands
