Edge 1040 solar not syncing with garmin connect app on iPhone running iOS16

Hi guys. I’m assuming this is another fairly well known issue among the handful of cycling nerds that upgraded to the new iPhone iOS 16 software (just like how weather isn’t syncing onto wearables) and also have an edge 1040, but I can’t get any activities to sync to the garmin connect app on the phone. I get the red exclamation point when trying to sync manually. So I’ve just been connecting directly to my MacBook and syncing the activities through the desktop version and just viewing the activities in the connect app on my phone afterwards. Anyone else having this issue?

iOS 16 Beta 4/Public Beta 2 is out. Does it fix the sync issue?

Hoping once the public beta of iOS 16 comes out it works. Developer betas definitely are more on the bleeding edge

Hi, it's not a problem of IOS Beta software, but a Garmin problem even on iOS 15 and Android:

Anyway you can sync your activities over wi-fi, even a wi-fi hotspot of the iPhone...

Forgive me I’m not the most tech savvy person but either I’m missing something here or you’re not understanding the issue I’m having. When you said “anyway you can sync your activities over wifi” that’s the problem I’m having. I’m trying to sync a finished activity over wifi and it’s not working. The only way I’ve found to be able to sync an activity is by connecting the edge physically via usb to my laptop and syncing that way.

Ah ok, I thought the problem was only the bluetooth sync….

I’m on iOS 16 beta 2 now and wi-fi syncing with hotspot works so I can’t help, sorry…

Well, you’re saying you’re able to sync to it over wifi when using a hotspot from your phone? Like tethering?

Yes exactly. You have to create a Wi-Fi hotspot from the iPhone and save the network on the 1040, then whenever you want to upload a ride, activate the hotspot and force a synchronization from the Garmin.
That works for me…

Yes, same problem here too. Syncing via wifi directly from the 1040 is fine. But not through the phone: either by trying to trigger a sync in the Garmin Connect app or directly on the 1040 using the Connect Phone menu.

I’ve had this in the past also with a 1030. I normally press and hold the power button and do a power off. Then when I power back on it usually does the sync. Sometimes it seems to take a bit longer as I guess it’s syncing all the segments etc.

I've got this problem (as noted by another poster, it's not the iOS beta software), but also my weather widget isn't working. It isn't working on my Epix 2, either, so suspect that Garmin is just generally having issues with slightly borked software.
