Garmin Connect app using a lot of phone battery

I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone. The Garmin Connect app is using a lot of phone battery (%28 in 5 hours). I've never had this before. Anyone else seeing this?

Thank you.

  • I use an iphone and have a similar problem. Since I've connected the Garmin 1040, Garmin Connect is the most power consuming app on my phone. Guess it's because the Connect app is constantly looking for the 1040... I also get a notification every time the app has lost the connection to the 1040... very annoying.

  • These photos are taken after a full charge. Garmin Connect seems to be draining battery unnecessarily.

  • The main problem is livetrack for me, it consumes a lot of mobile battery. During the week I don't care because I have plenty, but some very long weekend outings I have to remove it so as not to run out of battery in my mobile

  • Doesn't seem right. Livetrack usage is nearly not noticeable on my phone or Garmin device. Maybe around 10% after 5 hour ride overall battery drain on my phone.

  • In my case with a Samsung Galaxy S20+ about 8% every hour I would say. A 5h routing, well from 100% to 60% perfectly, (It may also go through some areas without coverage, and other applications that use some battery (40% in 5h globally, just like Garmin Connect, it takes 25-30% perfectly)

Today I have disconnected data sync, and I have stopped livetrack and garmin connect, and in 5 hours it has not reached 10%, from 100% to 90%

This has happened to me with all my Garmins using livetrack and Grouptrack. I also use some IQ plugins like windfield and others, I don't know if these also have a consumption above normal. But the battery of the Garmin is more than enough for me, it is that of the mobile phone if it is connected to the garmin during an activity.

  • I'm also using Windfield. But connected to iPhone 13 Pro Max. 10%/hour is a bit heavy.

  • The "Device Care" message was on screen this morning after being on charger all night. No Live Track being used. This is unusual. I'll try un-install/re-install app.

  • Same here with Realme X50 5G running Android 11.  Livetrack is completely unreliable for me.  Sometimes doesn’t start, sometimes stops tracking during the ride and quite often doesn’t end when I finish the ride.  I was wondering if the battery drain is caused by the phone losing connection to the Edge and constantly trying to re-connect.  I’m going to use my Edge 1030 today as it could be a Garmin Connect issue rather than the 1040.
