1040 rattles in aftermarket mounts

The new super-duper metal mount on the 1040 seems to cause a lot of rattling with standard mounts. I haven't had the chance to try it with the included mounts because they don't work on my bikes. Anyone else seeing this issue?

Thanks!

  • I have a SRAM mount and it's snugger than my previous edge 1000

  • Maybe, a bit of something like nail polish on the metal mount would close the gap enough.

It would be something fairly easy to adjust in small amounts, fairly permanent, and fairly easy to remove.

(I'm not sure how it would work on the socket. It might be hard to remove.)

  • I believe the metal on the back of the 1040 will always shave off the plastic locking lugs. The edges on aluminium are like knife blades and will always cut through the plastic lugs. I have tried a few different brackets including Garmin with the same result. In my view it is a big design flaw.
