startup.txt doesn't work

Question

I noticed there is no startup.txt in the Garmin folder. 
 Even if I create a new startup.txt file in the Garmin folder, the text doesn't display on bootup. 
 I'm running 12.14 beta.

This has been covered in a couple of other threads. Support for it is not currently there. Garmin has said they will add support, but have not given a timeline.
