Can't stop a course

Hi.

Once I have started a course, I'm unable to stop the course from the map screen. On the 1030 plus and 1030, there was an x to stop the course.

How can I stop a course?

  • Currently you can stop it via the control loop. Swipe down from the top of the screen and find the page with the stop course option.

  • Have you tried just touching the screen.  On routes and segments i just touch the screen and a Stop course / segment message comes up. I touch that message and it stops.

Actually a bit easier than trying to hit that little x all the time. You still get the secondary confirmation like you did before.

  • Tapping the screen is the easier option, but I think for a course it offers pause rather than stop as an option currently.

  • Yes exactly... When I press the screen, it only gives me the option to pause the navigation. There is no option to stop a course on the map screen

  • It's quickly available in the top drop-down menu. Don't make them consider bringing back the horrific stop button on the map screen :-).

A drop-down tip; dragging down from above the screen isn't always working for me. Instead, I start pressing on the screen itself (not above the bezel) and then drag it down. Always works.

  • Can you please be mor specific where to find this page. I can*t find anything like that.  have Profile, settings, battery and GPS.

The former button was quick and easy.

  • Swipe down from the top of the to put you in the widget loop. Next swipe from the right to the left, this will take you to the next page. If a course is running one of these options will be stop course.

This assumes you have not changed the widget order

  • Thank you.. That was the trick. :)

  • The 1040 manual states - "Tap map screen to select stop". As here stated you get only "Pause". If you press Pause you then get "Resume" if you press that then a "Stop" bar comes up quickly, often less than a second, However, it sometimes last long enough for you to press and stop the course.

I use long-finger gloves and I had to loop 7-8 times around the sequence above, before I could get in quick enough to press Stop.

It is another abysmal retrograde step of the 1040 over my 1000. When you tap the map screen you should get 2 bars "Resume" & "Stop Course". The bars are big enough to easily select nothing fiddly.

I assume "iheathcock" had the "Stop" due to the "Segments" which I do not use. I tapped the screen numerous times yesterday and only got "Pause" (s/w 12.15).

To play around with the drop-down is not the way Garmin should be programming this. It has to be a function of the map screen itself, basically as stated in the manual. (I wrote back to the manual, stating that does not work, but not that they should change the manual, but to get the developers to make it work as designed.)

  • Ha! Now Garmin have changed the manual to use the widget approach. Absolute BS!

    1. Scroll to the map.
    2. Swipe down from the top of the screen, and scroll to the controls widget.
    3. Select Stop Course > .
