No support for the Supersapiens data field

Hi.

The 1040 solar doesn't support the Supersapiens CGM data field. I have emailed the developer but this is the second major integration which doesn't work

  • The 1040 doesn't have "zero apps" .  Unlike the iPhone, the vast majority of the 1040 functionality is built in.  So, it can be a bike computer, connect to sensors, navigate, analyze performance, etc.  without any CIQ additions at all.  In fact, it does more without CIQ that ANY bike computer could do even four or five years ago.  The CIQ apps simply add little bits of added functionality here and there.  The base functionality is there from the start.  Even the iPhone can make calls. send messages, browse the web, take and organize photos, create documents and spreadsheets, pay for stuff, and much more using just the functions that come from Apple with the device.  If that was all it ever had it would hardly be useless.  The 1040 is even farther in that camp.  I used my 1030, 1040, FR945, and Epix 2 without ever downloading ANY CIQ apps.  And I never felt that I was missing anything.  If there are bugs in the CIQ infrastructure, or apps haven't been ported yet it hardly makes the device useless.  It still does ALL of the basic and advanced bike computer stuff.  If it's usefulness is only predicated on being able to read your tire pressure then you should probably put it away until that works.  But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Garmin.  There are many more things that are important to more people than TyreWiz.

  • What’s your ambition here? Choose a or b and read the according part

    a) are you looking for a solution/explanation why something doesn’t work

    b) are you looking for arguments/insulting a company for not blowing you powder … (also known as trolling

    a) again, in short sentences:

-Garmin provides ConnectIQ as a Plattform (like Apple does with its AppStore)

-this is indeed empty without submissions from independent developers

-Developers like SuperSapiens can submit Apps, Datafields, Widgets and Watchfaces (lets call it Content)

-Developers need to declare what devices the Content is compatible with. Garmin doesn’t take care of this. Nor does Garmin delete it. Garmin doesn’t care for what devices a developer declares compatibility.

-If new devices are released, developers need to declare compatibility of their content to those. This is where the difference to Apple is. On iOS, you can submit before iOS releases. Because devs would leak new Garmin device information, they are only allowed to see those after release.

-if Content isn’t declared compatible, blame the developer for not moving as fast as you expect, not the supplier of the Plattform . you can also not blame Apple if an app is not working with the newest iOS because the developer didn’t update it.

-you pay only for the core device with the functionality wich is built in. Every ConnectIQ content you use is a bonus.

-if you depend on a ConnectIQ item wich is not supported when you bought the device, it’s your fault. You can check online in every browser wich devices are compatible.

    b) my troll feeding:

you are the type of person who buys a motorcycle to drive in Monsun season and then  complain about the manufactures foult that you got wet shoes.

  • So, it's OK for Apple or Garmin to release a brand new flagship device that breaks all existing apps and it's MY FAULT for relying on the apps?  I'm wrong and you're right.  Thank you!  You are so smart.  Do you have a blog?

  • Also, even if the CIQ apps were re-compiled with a new 1040-enabled manifest.xml, adding a Connect IQ data field seems to NOT work right now anyway.  That's MY FAULT too.  Thanks for clearing things up!  Your help is much appreciated.  In conclusion, Connect IQ apps not working is -- mostly MY FAULT and secondly the developers' fault(s), and NOT Garmin's FAULT.

  • I remember reading about how when Windows 95 was released, Microsoft went through a crazy amount of development to make sure everything that used to run on Windows 3.1 still worked on Windows 95, but I guess Microsoft was WRONG for doing that?  And Apple is wrong for releasing an iPhone that doesn't break 99% of the existing apps?  I understand now.  You and Garmin are ever so RIGHT and I'm WRONG and neither Apple, Microsoft, nor I understand how a software platform should work.  Thanks again.

  • Actually, on the iPhone apps always have to be modified by the developer to run on the new versions of iOS.  If that doesn't happen they usually don't work.  I have had that happen on phone apps that I use- they stop working until the developer gets their act together.

  • You're right.  Every time I update iOS, every app I have installed is deleted, and I can't download a new version for three months.  Thank you.

  • Nobody said any of they that.  First, nothing was deleted from you device since it, like all new devices (including iPhones) only came with what Garmin installed.  When a new version of iOS comes out most of the major apps have already been updated and the process seems seamless.  However, I have used iOS apps where the developer didn't update it for weeks or months after the new iOS.  Those app might completely crash or maybe just have little glitches depending on what iOS services they use.  And Apple doesn't care.  They are perfectly happy to let you download previously functional apps that no longer work.  Garmin didn't delete any apps from any device.  The on-device CIQ store only has three apps that Garmin knows work.  But if you go to the CIQ store app you can download other things.  Like people here have done.  They might work and they might not until they are updated.  However, that isn't Garmin's fault.

  • I'm agreeing with you!  Garmin is doing the RIGHT thing here by NOT migrating the apps I have installed on my old device to my new Edge 1040.  I should have to reinstall them manually myself even though none of them exist right now.  Apple is WRONG for installing the apps I had on my old device automatically on my upgraded device.  THANK YOU!  The Garmin way is so much more convenient!

  • Did any YouTube reviewer mention this?

'YouTube reviewer' checking in. It's impossible to cover ConnectIQ status on things prior to release day as a lot (or most) apps/data fields/etc need updating before they'll install. I'm still waiting/chasing a number of fields I personally use on the Edge units.
