No support for the Supersapiens data field

Hi.

The 1040 solar doesn't support the Supersapiens CGM data field. I have emailed the developer but this is the second major integration which doesn't work

  • Garmin deactivated all existing CIQ apps for the 1040.  They all have to be ported to CIQ 4.1 and nobody has.  Some users are reporting that the Garmin-suppled CIQ 4.1 apps cause stability problems.  I'm speculating that CIQ doesn't work at all on the Edge 1040.  Releasing it in this state would be like if Apple shipped the new iPhone 14 and disabled all existing apps that have ever been written.  It's absolute madness.

  • So ein Dummfug.

Garmin didn’t disable any apps (except one wich was made for diving with the Fenix 5).
ConnectIQ requires the developer to „ENABLE“ the app for any new device. It’s all up to SuperSapiens to do it and they now it.
I think they will do it as soon as Pro Teams using Garmin switch to the 1040 and ask for it.

  • The existing CIQ apps worked on the 1030 Plus when it was released.  Whether the current 1030 apps were deactivated or have to be re-released as a CIQ 4.1 version is irrelevant.  In either case, the current apps do not work.

  • It has been less then a week after release. I'm pretty sure they will update the app.

The 1030 plus was easy to support as it was not much different from the 1030. The 1040 changed lots internally and so apps need to be compiled specifically for it. This is up to the developer of the app. With it being under a week, maybe try and be patient?

  • The difference does matter.  In the case where Garmin disables all the CIQ apps, we're waiting for Garmin to make the necessary updates.  In the case where's it up to the developers to enable support for their CIQ apps, you should email the developer and ask them for an update.  The end results is the same but the method of resolution and the reason the app doesn't work is different.

  • SRAM just emailed me back and said they're having problems getting TyreWiz sensors to connect to the Edge 1040 with CIQ 4.1.  The CIQ data fields that don't require a sensor aren't working either according to other forum posts.  Basically CIQ 4.1 is DOA right now with the Edge 1040.  This isn't SRAM or Supersapiens "fault".  Garmin should have held back the 1040 release until the new version of CIQ worked.  Did any YouTube reviewer mention this?

  • Garmin should just add native support for the three CIQ sensors that actually do something useful and declare CIQ itself a failed experiment.  Even when CIQ (mostly) worked on the Edge 1030 and Edge 1030 Plus there were issues with it.  If the device went into sleep mode and woke back up, the CIQ sensor data field would just show an error.  The other issue is that CIQ data fields and apps aren't migrated from your data pages when you setup a new device. Garmin hasn't managed to fix these issues in four years.  Why not just add native support for Supersapiens, TyreWiz, and PowerPod?

  • TyreWiz needs sensor data.  It's in the permissions for the app on ConnectIQ.

  • Yeah, the TyreWiz is a sensor like the Supersapiens is a sensor. So, the TyreWiz OR the Supersapiens data field would require a sensor. And, if you own any CIQ sensor, you can't use it with the 1040 right now.  Isn't that what we're talking about here?

Also, even if you don't need a sensor, those data fields are causing instability with the 1040.  So, CIQ data fields DO NOT work on the 1040 whether you have a sensor or not.

My suspicion is that Garmin knew that CIQ wasn't ready for the 1040 and that's why they released it with an empty CIQ store and all of the current apps marked as unsupported.
