Auto pause - starting delay

Hi.

I have recently purchased the Garmin 1040 solar and have noticed there is a short delay (3-5 seconds) after moving off for the device to go from pause to play.

On the Garmin 1030 plus, 830 and 530, it was pretty instant.

There somes to be an issue with the 1040 solar

  • Bottom line, auto pause needs some algorithm optimization. Who's tracking feedback :-)

  • It looks like the lowest you can set Auto-Stop is 6 mph.  If you choose Custom instead of Auto Stop, you can set the start/stop threshold as low as 3 mph instead of 6 mph.  Personally I leave auto stop set to off, and if I am stopping for more than a few minutes I will pause the ride and turn off the computer.  Once you turn the computer back on just push the start button again and it will resume recording the ride.

  • I am a bit disappointed, my Edge 1000 started to record at any movement, my brand new 1040 doesn't record until I reach 5 km/h. I am loosing a lot of information because sometimes we move very slowly. I hope they fix it.

  • My solutions to this problem: 1: Set timer start mode to Manual and 2: Set auto pause to When Stopped. You can start a ride before moving because the auto pause immediately stops the timer. A few metres/yards of movement will restart the timer. The better position accuracy provided by the 1040 should reduce the risk of poor satellite signals creating false movement.

The other feature of this problem is the upper limit of the allowable input range for a custom speed. Here's the timer start range. The upper limit is somewhat high! (the auto pause range is 3 to 10000).
