Course vs Route Recalculation

Hey Everyone,

I'm moving from a 1030 and noticed that there are extra options in the Navigation > Routing Menu for "Course Recalculation" and "Route Recalculation" (the 1030 just had "Recalculation").

Does anyone have additional details beyond the manual for these two options (copied below, not super insightful)? The seem to be directed at when you're riding a course vs having the Edge direct to a PO?

Course Recalculation >>Automatically recalculates the route when you deviate from the course.

Options are "Prompt with Auto Re-route", "Prompt Only", "Auto re-route", and "Auto Pause"

Route Recalculation >> Automatically recalculates the route when you deviate from the route.

Options are "Prompted", "Automatic", and "Off"

Thanks!

  • The device is trying to follow the track

And what the "Ride type" (road, gravel, mountain...)  and "Routing mode" (road, gravel, mountain...) options settings are used for?

  • When you are not using a track (from a file).

The routing (turn guidance) is either based on a track OR uses the avoidances/road-type settings.

  • When you are not using a track (from a file).

Do you mean I set starting and destination points and de device will calculate the "optimal" route using my custom avoidances, my custom routing method and my custom routing mode?

What is the nuance that differentiates "Ride type" and "Routing mode? Options are very similar...

    Yes, exactly.

These are a general way of specifying the roads/paths you want to use.

A track is a specific way of specifying the exact roads/paths you want to use.

The "Ride Type" is so you can classify the ride. It doesn't doesn't effect navigation.

Navigation > Routing > Routing Mode effects navigation (it's under Navigation),

The Routing Mode works by changing the priority (preference) of road types:

    • Mountain Biking -> Picks trails over other road/path types.
    • Gravel Biking -> Picks unpaved roads over other road/path types.
    • Road Biking -> Picks paved roads over other road/path types.

    (Basically. It's not well documented.)
