What about Gradient Lag?

Can anyone report if Garmin have fixed the issue that the 1030+ has with ridiculously long responses to changes in gradient?

  • I, like many others are just done with this. It is not getting fixed, not getting better, not even talked about anywhere. Instead new Garmin devices and Climb Pro stuff with a bad gradient measurement.

I for 1 would 100% go to Wahoo if they would simply add the GOAL for the Strava segments like Garmin has. Why Wahoo only HAS PR and KOM only for segments is beyond me. I do not get the companies. It's like they team up and say"You will have the correct gradient and we will have our riders set goals in live segments but you cannot." This stuff is crazy

  • It's an absolute joke that Garmin can't get this Grade Lag resolved. Wahoo as a company is't doing good and Garmin is going to keep them in business because of things like this. The 1030 is WAY better than any of the new computers. 540,840,1040. I really don't think Garmin cares about its customers since we have all been asking to fix this since the 1030 Plus was released. Garmin do your job!!!!!!

You know it's bad when the Stages Dash Computer has better Grade than the new Garmin devices.

  • Best joke is that they fix gradient lag  in some beta then broke it again on next release

    Thats something

  • So basically you're defining the 1030 as better just because it did not have so much of gradient lag? That's exaggerating imo, besides 1030 also had gradient lag. If you guys are too obsessed with gradient why not just get this app:

    https://apps.garmin.com/fr-FR/apps/ccd47ae2-cb9b-460b-8314-a6f55196ca0d

Gradient is alot more responsive, is shown in decimal numbers, and doesn't calculate gradient using gps data anymore. So gradient may be more responsive sometimes values will be off, but you can set up grade responsiveness and reliability in settings.

This is another nice app, it gives you average gradient per x distance (customizable as well)

  • I just want the latest and greatest computer from Garmin to work just as good if not better than something over 7 years old. You wouldn't think progress would go backwards...

  • Do you work for Garmin? My previous 2 units (including the 1030) had zero lag. They were dead on nuts accurate. So no, it is not exaggeration. Maybe people who are spending $600 or $750 on a top of the line piece of equipment expect it to work as expected.  There are 38 pages of dissatisfied users on this thread, yet Garmin just buries their head in the sand. And no, I am not going to add a 3rd party app to correct Garmin's problem that they created.

  • I owned at least 3 different garmin Computers, all had gradient lag, but it's an issue out of sudden? My 830 had it, so had my 1030 Plus, and it's behaving the same exact way on my 1040 Solar, but it NEVER bothered me so much. Also, there are so much more issues to be fixed, what's a 10 second gradient delay next to major issues like the computer shutting down. The app I'm talking about doesn't only fix the delay, it exploits computer potential, we get datas that aren't implemented.

Sure, the gradient of the slope I'm climbing displays 6 to 10 seconds late, but cycling on usual roads helped me come to a point where I don't need to know the gradient anymore. Sure, it's helpful when cycling to new places, but I would rather have them improve climb pro

Besides 38 pages + other topics, to me it is clear that no one is listening so why bother

  • Good for you - if you “don’t need to know the gradient anymore”, whether bc you always stay on the same roads, or bc you never bother cycling in another country or region, or whether you don’t care for knowing current gradient, in a reliable and timely manner on a head unit.

The rest of us - (and likely thousands more in the “silent majority of Garmin cycling computer owners”), obviously are very bothered by it - in such a “premium-priced unit”.

  • For me , every function, Speed , Gradient , Power , it should work as it is

Why Garmin did not add 3sec, 5sec, 10sec, 30 sec for Gradient

  • I don't understand why we don't have these yet
