What about Gradient Lag?

Can anyone report if Garmin have fixed the issue that the 1030+ has with ridiculously long responses to changes in gradient?

  • I am happy to report that in my user case the gradient lag is gone with the release of the recent alpha/beta

I have done a ride in a rolling terrain and I could immediately sense the difference. Also and the end of the ride I made a quick test on a small hill to compare it with my epix, which resulted with massive discrepancies in the past. Today it was spot on.
Additionally maybe even more importantly for me, the climb pro and power guide elevation plot graph no longer lags. Happy days.

Also I like the upgraded graphics, and gradient indicator in climb pro, which frees one data field for something else.

  • Great news, i will test it tomorrow

  • This is probably the best news ever!!! Now can't wait for update once it's released since I'm under Asia...

  • I confirm somehow ,lag still exist but now is like 5 sec not 20 sec

  • this would be great news as I was gonna sell my 1040 and go back to my 1030. In Aug I did a test where I had my 1030 (not plus) and my 1040 solar next to each other on my bike (not many people did this test) and rode hills, routes, climb pro- all and compared gradient changes, time delays. The 1030 still lagged about 5 seconds, So if the 1040 does that, is more than fine as it brings people back to what they are used to. Cannot wait to test today!  Thanks!

  • Great news !

I sold.my 1030+ headunit a while back in order to replace it with the 1040. I held off due to this problem...

I will proceed to but it now,

    Thanks !

  • @micro. Thanks much for this great news.

If indeed true, then thank you also for everyone on this sub-thread for voicing their opinions and concerns re. the unacceptable lags for gradient display!

I’d like to believe Garmin may have read our frustrations and reacted in a positive way.

For those who were nay-sayers, saying they didn’t care about gradient lag: Continue on, no need to use the newly improved ClimbPro.

  • I am truly hoping This was not a one time off, but I will not have the opportunity to ride my road bike this week for sure. Looking forward seeing other’s experience.

  • Hopefully great news for all 1040 users, just hoping that they can now fix this for the 1030+ users in the next alpha/ beta release

  • Ride Report with the new update:

Definitely an improvement with the update. Gradient changes within 5 seconds or less. About the same or better than my previous Gen1 Wahoo Elemnt.

The floating gradient value on the profile view matches what the computer thinks it is climbing, not what the profile view is displaying (green/yellow/orange/red/etc).

It changed exactly with the gradient value I had in one of the lower data fields.

With the new floating gradient I was able to display power & cadence on the bottom now. Great! Although the floating gradient is small, and hard to see when pushing it. Really no reason it couldn't be much bigger. Loads of space for it.

With the new update I didn't get climb pro or segments popping up on my ride. Need to troubleshoot that. Just used the elevation page.
