Can anyone report if Garmin have fixed the issue that the 1030+ has with ridiculously long responses to changes in gradient?
Thank you for sharing your concerns about the undesirable lag in road grade. We want to share that we have a plan for an improved solution with consideration of both accuracy and responsiveness. Our engineers…
@Garmin-Mathew.
If you really believe that 10-15 seconds delay is considered “normal” - as the official statement from Garmin is trying to force-feed customers, then what does that say about my Edge 1000…
I currently have a wahoo element (full size) a karoo2 and now a 1040 solar. as of the 12.14 release the 1040 solar still has a ridiculous lag as compared to the other two. I really don't care too much…
Apparently, as per some other forum members, the barometric sensor was changed - on the 1030+, 1040, 830, 530 etc. And that is the reason.
However, this is probably considered “corporate / trademark secrets” and it’s unlikely anyone at head office will openly declare this proprietary info openly. They simply reply: ‘10-15-20 second lag for gradient reporting is normal’!!
Basically - ‘Too bad, so sad’, for us.
It is NOT normal . Recreational doesn’t mean useless as it is now and considering the selling price, it should be a “bit” more than recreational by the way and we are talking about one problem out of other dozens that still need to be fixed.
As far as I know, Garmin uses Bosch barometric sensors.
Each new type is more sensitive than its predecessor.
That should not be the problem...
Maybe aweatherall knows more about the used type.

(Edge 1030 has the Bosch BMP380 built in)
Correct, it “*should* not be the problem”.
Unfortunately, seems all the aforementioned units have the new “upgraded” sensor. Which “should” theoretically be better … but unfortunately, is not, and is actually much worse..
Wouldn’t be the first and only time in the world that a newly upgraded model of technology device was actually worse than its outgoing predecessor.
lets see

Gplama addressed this problem over his YouTube channel
If you pay attention , YouTube movie is called "Edge 1040 Issue Tracking" , that means that Gplama find same "problems" and reported back to Garmin
But this does not matters , only mention for the problems , that are real , maybe will wake up Garmin
of course it does nothing to do with GPS, I had in the past devices that did not had ANY GPS , and percentage dispayed was spot on!
My feeling is that Filtering and calculation is done every 20-30 seconds, depending on the climb to save battery
This of course its only an assumption
And yes, track is way better than any device that I had , for example 830 is bad compared with 1040 , that is almost perfect
