What about Gradient Lag?

I went from a 1000 to a 1030+ and had gradient issues from Day one. In the end i sold the 1030+ and ordered a 1040. guess what same annoying problem, only bigger

A few posts back - @angwagon wrote a stern warning to @Garmin, threatening to stop purchasing Garmin electronics if Garmin doesn’t address this issue soon. 

Just sold my 1030+ thinking to replace it with a 1040 hoping the gradiend lag and off temperature readings were fixed on the new device.

Unfortunately,  I see neither has been fixed.

I guess I will have to wait for the 1040+ !

There is diff in temperature, 1-2 C + comparing to 830, but how this matter?

you climb Slower or faster if slope its spot on?

yes its annoying but I try to ignore , if I focus only on this bad thing, I cannot enjoy the good ones 

How do I use it?  I can gauge my effort, how much power I want to put down, what speed I think I should be going at, am I having a good or bad day, how does it compare to the section I was just on or about to hit.  All sorts of reasons you personally may consider irrelevant and not important.  

For me, it’s a feature that should work, it is after all one of the default items on the out of the box screens.

Sorry, but saying it doesn’t matter on a high end device isn’t helping those of us who find it annoying, we all have different requirements. To be honest if you take the argument all the way then why do you need  device at all?  I mean, it’s either hard or it’s not. 

I don’t care about temperature for example as it’s generally always cold and wet where I am, but I respect that there will be quite a few who find that useful, so good on them if they push garmin for better accuracy.

I’d love to be able to rely on gradient so I can use it.  I live in a very hilly part of the country and it’s pretty much what we do, so I like it as an instant measure (within  a few seconds), not with the crazy lag garmin think is acceptable.

So, the more of us that care and raise this with garmin (who seem to want to sweep it under the carpet) the sooner we can get a fix or an admission that it’s not within normal bounds.

I’ve tried all the suggested work-arounds on this thread on my 1030+, none have worked.  Even the “Sensible Gradient” one. I could live with a workaround, but you can only get those if the company admits there’s a problem in the first place.

and even worse, this is normal behavior from Garmin  point of view, as they include in the "manual"

So my Edge 1030 was...good ish , but I never go back because Gradient lags 5 seconds more..

what to fix if they say that is not broken ?

Again , same as you I would like to see some improvements, but my feeling is that no improvement will be made

Doesn't fix the lag, but the $29 Tempe sensor locks in a good temperature. I tucked mine away under the saddle, and it connects quickly and doesn't need attention.
