What about Gradient Lag?

Both comments by you and NZourik are pointless. Do you go around polluting other discussions with the "suck it up" answer?

Fact: the 1040 has improved location accuracy with GNSS, which along with improved processor speed means the 1040 should be NO WORSE than my 4 year-old 1030. 

So question again for anyone @Garmin: What will you do to fix this seemingly software-driven issue?  I have also noticed a delay in the displayed speed. Why is there a lag for something that my 1030 just did better?

Last point I want to make here: it is essential that Garmin fix matters like this to retain customers. In June of this year alone I dropped $2,000 on products: the 1040 Solar, the Varia RTC-715 and a Fenix 7S for my daughter for rowing. Prior to that I have spent several thousand $ on power meter pedals, a Neo II trainer, a 705 GPS, the 1030, 2 other Varia and countless accessories. 

Conversely, I will NEVER buy another Wahoo product after they refused to support a simple SW issue with my Kickr and instead tried to sell me a USED Kickr for $1,000 when a new Kickr 4 was 'only' $1,200. That kind of mistreatment of customers loses business and the referrals from customers. I have talked more friends into Garmin products than I can shake a stick at, and have also warned many folks away from Kickr products. 

So... @Garmin, please take note.

Your comment does not allude to the subject of this thread. "Gradient lag." Garmin has clearly stated that this new  generation of hardware is performing grade calculations as designed. It is not related to the GPS. 

I don't know if this is problem is connected with the gradient lag, but I noticed that 1040 solar counts less evelation meters compared to my two previous 830 and 820 devices. The difference is even 10 percent, always in minus. Does anyone have that experience as well?

Compared to someone I’ve ridden with over a number of years:

My:

800 always read less than his 800

1000 always read less than his 1000

1030 always read more than his 1030

1040 reads very slightly less than his 1030

you can have elevation corrections turned on, which I think helps.

What I can tell you is I rode Bealach NA Ba a few weeks ago that starts at just over sea level and ends at 620m  The 1040 was exactly on 620m elevation at the top of the climb.

He is referring to Garmin Connect, elevation correction can be performed only from there
