High Aerobic Load not increasing at all. Perpetual bogus "High Aerobic Shortage"!

Rides that absolutely should increase High Aerobic Load produce ZERO increase in High Aerobic Load Totals.

Low Aerobic and Anaerobic go up exponentially more. Most of the time High Aerobic does not increase at all.

Clearly several rides in a row with large blocks of Zone 4 power but High Aerobic load never went up even once.

Two of the Four rides were Threshold labeled and the other two were Base. This has been going on forever and it's very frustrating.

  • Yes I am sure you're wrong. My trainer uses TP and he reported that I completed a High Aerobic training where in Garmin it says zero High Aerobic. As I demonstrated in the screenshots (in another bug report i raised on this issue) it is broken again. Last year after a SW/FW change of garmin all of a sudden all effort was flawlessly distributed in low and high aerobic until a change in FW/SW made at the beginning of April where several more old major bugs returned which completely screwed up training data history.

As I already wrote: I did not do any anaerobic exercise at all and still garmin adds points to the anaerobic load. As also already said: I did 2 blocks of 40 mins high aerobic load in a climb of a mountain in a 4 hour ride. Acc to TP it added a huge load to high Aerobic in garmin it gave zero! So it is a major bug which returned.

Look at the other related issues raised in this forum: there are always at least 5 other Related topics given on this exact same issue over the years. Again: Garmin screws up on SW/FW version maintenance

It only depends on which device(s) you use if it's turned up. I have an Edge 1030 Plus and I saw it appearing in the Edge1030 and Edge 530 as well

  • I've tested this is very much still broken on Edge 1030, 130, and Forerunner 945 devices.  Unless a ride Training Effect Benefit gets labeled as "Tempo" or "Threshold" you get ZERO increase in High Aerobic Load.  Even though Low Aerobic and or Anaerobic increase incrementally with EVERY Training Effect Label type.  Very much broken.

  • Anyone with the new Edge 1040 or FR955 know is this issue has been addressed in those devices?

  • This failure to compute High Aerobic effort is still totally broken.  Garmin needs to fix this.

  • I have a 1030 and I very seldom saw any high aerobic effort until I turned off auto detect of maximum heart rate.

  • Hmm, I can’t find that setting in the app or the device. Please advise.

my understanding is the load is based on power zones when you use a power meter.

  • I don't know how it is based. I do use a power meter. The setting is located in My Stats. Go to Training zones And then heart rate zones and the setting is on the very top.

High aerobic is still kind of a mystery. Today I thought I had a really hard 30 mile ride and it status showed as base. My average heart rate was low today and I guess that is what led to the base rating.

  • This issue with High Aerobic is that it does not accumulate in the same way that Aerobic and or Anaerobic do.  If a ride contains all three zones and it usually does...but not always.  Aerobic and Anaerobic increment upwards every time.  Even if a ride contains lots of time in High Aerobic zones like Threshold, Tempo, and or VO2 Max High Aerobic load will NOT increment at all UNLESS the ride is labeled as Tempo or Threshold or VO2 Max. If the ride has a lot of low aerobic mixed in and gets labeled as Base you will get ZERO High Aerobic Load added. This does not seem right.

I've made the change you suggested to max heart rate and also Lactate Threshold.  I'll be surprised if it makes a difference though.

  • Have you discussed this issue with Garmin support? Posting issues here will not solve them unless someone from Garmin gets involved in the discussion which is very rare. Perhaps someone in Garmin support can find out how high aerobic is calculated.

  • I am having the same issue. All worked perfectly for the last few months. Running a 1030 and Fenix 7x, I was getting LA, HA and Anaerobic reading and had been training 5 to 6 days a week leading up to a 2 week stint of ALPS riding.
Left the 1030 at home, did my 2 weeks in the ALPS on MTB, on my return, I am not getting any High Aerobic score at all, just 0. Given my recent rides, this is impossible.
So I am not sure what has changed, I did not change any settings on any devices. Very odd.
I have tried switching off Auto Detect Max HR and will report back later in the week.
Logic tells me, something has changed on Garmin's side for some reason.
