New Edge 1030 Public Beta 9.24 Now Available

A new Beta software (9.24) for the Edge 1030 has been released. Full change log, instructions, and software for installing the beta can be found here.

  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 9.10 to 9.24:

  • Indoor Riding Improvements
    - Added the ability to set system time using WiFi or Bluetooth when GPS is not available.
    - Added a Free Ride indoor trainer mode that enables the trainer to be set to a target grade.
    - Added a 'Remind Me' prompt for the trainer search.
    - Made a change so LiveTrack is not started automatically for indoor or virtual activities.
    - Prevent light network from forming indoors.
  • Elevation and ClimbPro Improvements
    - Added grade coloring to the elevation chart.
    - Added grade coloring for segments.
    - Changed the Time to Destination data field to show estimated time to the top of the climb if ClimbPro is activated.
    - Fixed an issue with cumulative ascent and ClimbPro not working properly when a course is transferred from Garmin Connect.
    - Fixed incorrect category colors on the ClimbPro page.
  • Made Mountain Bike feature settings available in all activity profiles to allow for Grit, Flow, and Jump data metrics to be enabled if desired. These remain turned off by default for all non-MTB profiles.
  • Added the ability to configure the minimum ride length that should prompt for Nutrition/Hydration intake.
  • Added the ability to customize the activity track color on the map.
  • Fixed an issue where the device could falsely report that it was fully charged after coming out of suspend mode.
  • Fixed an issue where GPS satellites were lost more often than they should be.
  • Improved Bluetooth friendly names to include BLE and BT so they can be distinguished from each other.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause unit-to-unit transfers to fail.
  • Fixed an issue with OSM roundabouts giving incorrect guidance.
  • Fixed an issue where the Course Creator out-and-back was not working properly.
  • Integrated the ability to use cached weather data for Firstbeat analysis.
  • Updated the turn review map page so the distance on the top left of the screen updates and the data field on the bottom left shows Heading.
  • Made OK the first response for LiveTrack and Text Message response prompts to minimize interaction while riding.
  • Improved the Reset HR Zones and Reset Power Zones behavior to only reset the zones and not the Max HR value or FTP.
  • Made it easier to switch between the month/week view in the Training Plan calendar page.
  • Fixed the alert sound not working when a workout is complete.
  • Fixed false level of timer precision on Garmin segments.
  • Fixed handling for long course names.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the device to lock up.
  • Fixed ANT+ shifting data not being correctly written to FIT files.

  • Ottimo lavoro Garmin,ti pregherei di prendere in considerazione di aggiungere in Garmin Connect la possibilità di mettere sport E-bike sulla corsa e aggiungere dati E-bike su file fit.

  • Former Member - I am sorry for the confusion here. We did not introduce a bug. This line was an improvement for users that ride indoors and do not acquire a GPS signal for several months. The clock can drift a small amount each day and over time this accumulates. We use GPS to get the clock back on track, but if you ride indoors and don't get a GPS fix for several months, the drift can become noticeable. We can then use one or more of the following (GPS, Bluetooth, and now WiFi) to correct the time drift. This is simply an improvement and not a requirement to have a connection.

  • - Added grade coloring to the elevation chart.
    - Added grade coloring for segments.

What exactly do these refer to? I upgraded my 830 to the beta for this and looked at my 1030 still with 9.10 and couldn't see any difference. If I chose a saved course and went to the Elevation screen to preview it, it still shows just one solid color for the whole climb it detects. If I select the Saved Course and "Ride" it, and go to the Elevation screen (not ClimbPro) It just shows the climb in one color. It is the same behavior as before. If I go to the ClimbPro screen and look at it it shows the grades colored properly. I'm confused.

Updated the turn review map page so the distance on the top left of the screen updates and the data field on the bottom left shows Heading

Interested in where I would find this. I'm not sure what the "review map page" is? Is it the same as the Map page that can be scrolled to. Looks the same as it did before.

Fixed an issue that could cause unit-to-unit transfers to fail.

THANK YOU! I've been waiting for this and can attest that I was able to successfully transfer a file from 1030 to 830 both with this beta and also from the 830 to 1030. Device Transfers have not been working reliably since last summer.

  • Great job, I am super happy with the fact that you're constantly working on improvements and adding new features! This device gets better and better. Honestly, I don't know how are you going to convince me to buy 1040 one day Slight smile

  • This is great, very pleased to see fixes for some long standing bugs like the suspend/resume battery indicator.

For long course name handling does that mean the edge will look at the whole name now instead of just the first 15 characters or whatever it was previously?

One thing I don't see mentioned was the live track warnings when using auto start from this thread https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-830/195007/repeated-warning-livetrack-auto-start-timed-out-every-30-seconds

I know that affects the 830 and 530, not sure about the 1030. Has that been fixed?

Will give the beta a go on my 1030 and 830 and report back any problems I find.

  • Wow finally fixed some long term bugs there - I hope ...

Not sure why there could not have been some updates in the various threads to acknowledge these issues and say they were being worked upon??

    • Fixed an issue where the device could falsely report that it was fully charged after coming out of suspend mode.
    • Fixed ANT+ shifting data not being correctly written to FIT files.

I will hang fire trying this for a bit until others have tested, as I hope that regression testing has improved, because the unit is pretty stable at the moment and even Live Track has been working reliably for last month so praying that stuff that works now ain't broken by this beta.
