add European maps

I live in the UK and use maps on my 1030 without issues. Now spending more time in mainland Europe and whilst I'm able to create and download routes, the route is displayed onto a blank screen  on my 1030 display. Is there a way simple fix for this/

Thanks in advance,

Graham

  • OSM maps can be downloaded from sites such as here: https://extract.bbbike.org/  (use one of the Garmin latin 1 format maps).

If you need installation help see part II of this post: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/08/install-free-garmin.html

  • I seem to recall, I could be wrong, that the 1030 Plus had access (within the purchase price) for "world-wide" maps, if yours is the 1030 original that might be the same. Nothing wrong with the OSM  versions but if you wanted the Garmin flavour then hock up to garmin express and see what it offers?

  • To get a complete set of routable European maps, you'll need to get a Windows laptop, download and install Garmin Express software, connect your Edge 1030+ to PC using original USB cable (or any other (thick) usb-cable that supports data transfer, not a cheap charging cable) , then you\ll be able to update map files on your Edge with ltest versions from Garmin using the Express software. Maps are free of charge.
