screen on my edge 1030 is separating from body.

The touchscreen on my 1030 is separating from the body of the device.

  • I just had the same problem for the 2nd time in 2 years. The first time, about 2 years ago, the local Garmin shop had to send the Edge 1030 to Bangkok. They replaced with a new one. Anyway this morning went to go for a ride and the screen had come away again. It’s becoming increasingly expensive to use anything from Garmin….I lost count how many HR sensors have failed and now even my local Garmin representative tells me that even though he had also heard of identical many cases with Edge 1030 screen issues even he, who runs a Garmin shop is unable to tell me the root cause.

The silence from Garmin given the number of worldwide reports on this is deafening.

  • The cause of the screen separation may be due to the battery swelling.

  • Why has this defective and potentially dangerous product not been recalled?

  • Why has this defective and potentially dangerous product not been recalled?

  • I wouldn't call the Garmin Edge a defective or dangerous product. Just like any other device there are some Edge's which develop physical issues but the vast majority do not. Software is another issue.

From what I have seen concerning the screen separating, it is highly likely that the Edge was kept on the charger all the time. At the end of a ride, the rider places the Edge on the charger and doesn't remove it until their next ride which could be days or weeks away. Keeping it on the charger is not recommended for any rechargeable device.
