Heart rate malfunctioning on my Edge 1030 Plus

Hello,    

For a few days now (around a week, but I'm not 100% sure of when it started), my Edge 1030 Plus is displaying (and recording) weird heart rate data with my heart rate chest-strap from Decathlon. Heart rate values are often very low, sometimes jump abruptly and sometimes are not updated for a few seconds/minutes.   

I tried to replace the battery of my chest strap heart rate sensor, but the problem is the same.

I tried to disconnect the chest strap and use the heart rate boradcast from my Fenix 6 Pro and this is when it becomes even weirder:
- When I start the heart rate broadcast from my Fenix 6 Pro everything seems fine.
- As soon as the heart rate broadcast gets connected to the Edge 1030 Plus, the broadcast automatically stops on the watch, and heart-rate broadcast screen displays "--" instead of the current heart rate value, as if my Edge 1030 Plus creates a bug on my Fenix 6 Pro.

It makes me think that the problem comes from the Edge rather than the chest strap or the watch.

Does this look familiar to any of you? Any idea of how to solve my problem?

    Hi,

    Do you have a new jersey or functional underwear? I had the effect once, where by the flutter or the fabric composition then the belt provided such strange values. Mostly at the beginning of a tour, later with more sweat on the skin it was then good.

    No, nothing new.    
    I tried with and without water on the chest strap, on the place of contact with the skin, it's the same.   

    I've been using the chest strap for 2 years, and the Edge 1030 plus for a few months, never had any issue like this...

    Then make a try with another strap or with another sensor. These parts have a limited life.

    Yes, I thought about that.   
    I actually ordered a Garmin HRM-Pro and should receive it tomorrow.    

    But the issue with the Fenix 6 really bugged me out.   

    I already used my Fenix 6 heartrate broadcast wth my EDGE devices when I forgot my chest strap or when it ran out of battery. And again, never any issues (except that Fenix heart rate sensor is not very good on a bike, dut to hand and wristle position I guess).    
    But for the last few days, the heart rate sensor from my Fenix 6 Pro kind of stops working as soon as I connect it to my EDGE 1030 Plus through broadcasting...

    When you turn off your Edge 1030 Plus do you power it down completely or just put it to sleep?

    If you only put it to sleep then try a full power cycle by holding the Power button until the power menu appears then selecting Power Off. Give it a minute then power on and see if there is any improvement.

    To check the operation of your Decathlon strap have you tried connecting it to your fenix 6 Pro?

     Thank you so much, you actually got me on track to understand all my issues!

    - I tried to connect my chest strap to my Fenix 6 (did not occur to me Rolling eyes), and indeed I had some issues (low values, jumps, values without changes for entire minutes).

    - After switching off (real power off) my EDGE for a few minutes, I tried again to connect the HR broadcast from my watch and everything was working fine.

    - Then, I tried to connect back the chest strap, still buggy. In the end, I realised that the issues with the connection between HR broadcast from the Fenix watch and my EDGE were only occurring when I was wearing the chest strap (in other words, when the chest strap sensor was on and around).

    So my conclusion is that the chest strap is indeed the one and only problem here: sending wrong values to the EDGE, and somehow creating bugs to other ANT+ devices around (don't know how that is possible, but this is what it looks like).

    I just received my HRM Pro, connection seems fine with both the Fenix and the EDGE, and I even managed to connect both the HR broadcast form the Fenix and the HRM Pro to my EDGE and switch from one another smoothly (which was impossible with my Decathlon chest strap, which somehow caused the connection between the Fenix and the EDGE to bug).

    Won't have the opportunity to ride this week-end, so I'll check all this in more details next week.

    Hi ! 

    as mentioned, some synthetic fabrics can cause static electricity which can interfere with the signal, and it helps to get the strap wet before use. 

    The Garmin Devices are simply going to read the data that the strap is providing, there is no manipulation on the Garmin device's end that interprets the data. We have an FAQ linked HERE with some other factors to look over. I hope this helps!
