Up Ahead feature

Hi All,

I saw a note recently about the "up ahead" feature in the 1040 et al. Looks like you can mark out important things like taps in the course when planning online and the garmin will give info on how far away you are on the course when riding. For me this would be handy for taps/water points on long trails. Bit of a crystal ball but does anyone think this will trickle down to the 1030 plus? Or perhaps failing that, are there other ways to do this?

As far as I can see from review photos it is already on all the x30s and every Garmin for the last 10? years, it looks just like the current course point listing you get if your course includes course points, you get course points either by specifically adding them, say in the Garmin Connect Course Planner or if you use another like RWGPS they are generated at every turn plus you can add your own (custom) course points. They currently appear n the Course point list, a data page which appears in the sequence if your have course points, each n appears at the bottom of your current screen as you pass over the point, they have little symbols on the map and there is a compound data field called Course Point Distance ( Crs Pt Dist) which shows the current distance to the point plus the point type. There are pictures of all these buried in the forum

Yes, it’s course points.

There are some new ones (which might not show up on the 1030+).

I assume the point will show but the symbol might default to generic or other, everything else is just text

Icons for the new course point types are already in the 1030/1030+/530/830
