1030+ after a 1030?

Hello,

I have a 1030 and I use these functions a lot but I mainly blame it for a certain slowness like an old computer and also a lack of contrast on the screen. So I plan to upgrade to 1030+. What is your opinion on this subject ? Does the 1030+ have any other issues? Thank you.

  • I moved from a 1030 to a 1030+ when the 1030+ was first released.  Here are the things I like about the 1030+ most over the 1030

    1. The 1030+ is faster.  It changes screens faster, it responds faster, it calculates routes faster.
    2. It responds to touch much better.
    3. The battery life is drastically improved.  With ANT+ on power, Di2, taillight and headlight, I average about a 3% drop in battery per hour.  With the 1030 it was more like 10%+ per hour.
    4. The speaker is louder.
    5. As far as the screen goes, it seems identical to me in color and contrast.  But that "ring" or "halo" around the edge of the screen is gone compared to the 1030.

I rarely, if ever, experience any of the "downfalls" that I see posted in these forums.  With the exception of sensor dropouts.  I will typically see at least one dropout during a session.  But the sensors communicate with the head unit via RF (radio frequency)  There are soooooo many things that could cause RF interference and that in turn cause a communication failure causing the sensors to dropout.  For example, my wife has ran the microwave during an indoor session causing all of my sensors to drop out.

    I digress.

One major thing to keep in mind.  It seems from other posts on this forum that Garmin is about to release the 1040 (possibly May or June)  Personally, I would wait to see what the 1040 has to offer.
