Edge 1030 Plus Sensor disconnects on Software Version 6.30

After updating my Edge 1030 Plus to version 6.30 I am experiencing more frequent and severe sensor dropouts.  Prior to the update the Varia radar would "disconnect" a few times during a 2 hour ride.  Now its happening 15-20 times per ride.  Also the power meter is dropping out which did not happen before.  Additionally on the last ride of 90 minutes the entire computer shut down and rebooted during the ride.  There seems to be a problem with the update that is causing more frequent and severe dropouts I encourage you to fix quickly.  As I read prior posts this seems to be a continuing problem.  Do you know what is causing it and what it will take to correct it?

  • I too have been having similar issues... on my brand-new 1030 plus purchased March '22.  After lots of chats with support, I finally asked for a replacement thinking it was a defective device.  My issues primarily pertain to the light connectivity (Bontrager IonPro RT/Flare RT Light Set) (both Ant+ products).  When turned on, computer says immediately, "forming light network".  Then when light network is formed, it is followed by "light disconnected from light network".  Additionally on occasion, my SRAM Force eTap shifting would connect but other times it will not.  Same with my Power Meter.  I will monitor how the new unit responds to these sensors, but wish me luck.  Customer service has been great thus far and was pretty much available when connected to their website.  The new unit came quickly and the process to exchange the old unit was simple.

  • I have a startup procedure before I get on my bike to start my morning rides (usually 55+ miles).  If I do not do this procedure, my 1030p will be missing sensors to start the ride, then I have to pull over on the road, and hit the  Connect button for the sensor that it did not see on initial startup.

5 Minutes before I am scheduled to leave the garage:

    1.  Turn Garmin 1030p on, let it boot up for about a minute or so.

    2. Turn Garmin Varia Radar on

    3. Turn Bontrager front light on

    4. Spin the pedals to wake up the Garmin Vector 3 pedals

    5. CHECK 1:  Does the 1030p see the Garmin pedals?  If not, turn pedals again, go to Profile/Road/Sensors and hit "Connect" button for the pedals and calibrate

    6. CHECK 2: Does the 1030p see the Garmin 510 radar?  If not, go to "Sensors" and click on Radar unit icon and connect

    7. CHECK 3:  Does 1030p see the Garmin Heart Rate monitor?  If not, go to Sensors", click on your HR sensor, and connect

8: CHECK 4:  Does the 1030p see the Di2 gear selection?  If not, click on Di2 button on your hoods to wakeup Di2, then go to "Sensors", click on Di2, and connect

9: FINAL SYSTEMS CHECK:  Okay, hop on the bike, start your ride, do you see on the screen HR/Power/Radar/Di2 info working properly.  Congrats, you are now good for the rest of the day, even if you take 20 minutes breaks, the sensors all seem to re-connect fine..  If sensor data doesn't show up, go to "Sensors" and re-connect that particular sensor.

It seems that if  you have a lot of gizmos to pair and connect, the 1030p is overwhelmed at startup and misses some of them.  My speed sensor seems to always connect properly, and I don't use the Bontrager front light features on the Garmin as I just want it to blink.
