Need to buy a new Compteur

Hello, I have an Edge 1030 computer at the "end of life" in mid June I participate to the Race Across France ... and so I need a new counter ... Do you think the 1040 will be available?

Thanks to you if you have some answers or tracks or rumors about the arrival of the 1040 ;-)

  • Battery problems ... after I recharge it freezes I have to restart it and the battery is 2/3 empty; so I think the battery is at the end of its cycle...

  • There is no news on the 1040 from Garmin

Garmin may also allow you to trade up to a new 1030+ .

Garmin will also allow you to pay for a service exchange and send you a refurbished 1030 with a new battery.

There is the Garmin Official Power Pack that fits underneath the 1030 Garmin ChargeTm Power Pack

You could use a portable power bank to keep the 1030 going (as long as it isn't raining).

If the 1030 is out of warranty then you might think about buying a battery from an auction site. They can be purchased for about £20. If you know how to use a screwdriver and soldering iron  the process is straightforward. There are online videos the show how to do it.:-)

  • Call Garmin support.  They are often willing to work with customers even after the warranty is expired.  It might not be a total replacement but could yield a decent discount on a refurb or new replacement.

The battery was easy to replace in the older models (eg 800, 1000), as they were held together with Torx screws, but the 1030 is not so easy, as it is glued together. You need a heat gun, to get it apart, and then some way of managing to get it waterproof again when reassembling. Ease of repair is obviously not one of Garmin's considerations, rather the reverse.

  • Dohhhh! I hadn't even looked at the case on My 1030+ - I just assumed it was the same as those I've had before :-( MY BAD!  Thanks for pointing that out AuldNIk :-) . The batteries are available - but the re sealing of the case definitely makes that option a non starter unless you NEVER ride in the rain.

  • I've seen several online businesses that can replace a 1030 battery. As I recall, the  cost was very reasonable.
