Garmin Express Double Sync

When Garmin Express tells you that 'You Have Items Ready To Install', does anyone else find that once you synchronize those items, that Garmin Express gives you the same message and offers the same items to install a second time?

I always get this with Garmin Segments and Biometrics data.

If however, you don't carry out the 2nd sync' and go back to 'check for update' , the list that was offered a second time is then empty.

I've called Garmin and as expected, they've not heard of this issue :-)

  • Same here. No idea why this sometimes happens.

  • When you see this, has your device been disconnected and powered on before reconnecting? I'm just curious the specifics about your scenario, and if this is occurring twice in a row while the device is still connected to Express. 

  • I plug my Garmin into my Windows PC after every ride. Yesterday I just plugged it in to check for any updates as I hadn't been out since last Friday. I plugged it in while it was powered off and let the PC wake it up and auto-connect to GE.

    It then offered the same updates twice, which I have seen quite a few times before (I first registered my 1030+ on 6th Sept). This never used to happen with my Garmin 1000.

    What I find strange with the 1030+ is that you can't see what updates are waiting unless you plug it in. With all other Garmin devices I have, you can see them in GE before plugging them in.

    The Edge always synchronizes first (without apparently applying any updates) and only then shows what updates (if any) are waiting.  At that point, I click on INSTALL ALL. After that (without disconnecting the Edge) it sometimes offers the same updates again. If I click on INSTALL ALL, then the updates appear to install as before.

    Today the behaviour was slightly different. I synchronised 5 segments but wasn't offered them again immediately. It was while writing this reply, that I went back to GE (the Edge had remained plugged in at all times) and then found that the same 5 segment leaders were in the queue again. I checked for updates again and they remained in the queue. As an extra check, I went to my Garmin Connect desktop account and the 5 segments were shown there in the device queue. I synchronized again in Garmin Express and the Segment leaders no longer showed in GC.

    I looked inside the New Files folder and there are just 5 files waiting to be applied and they all show the time of the second sync activity. (I had not at any time restarted my edge since I plugged it in for the first sync' earlier.)

  • Yes, this happens regularly, even with the old Edge 1030.
