Can you add a feature to the edge feature so that it can capture any sport - not just cycling

I have been using my edge for boxing training - it has a large display - that we can check anywhere in the ring - the heart rate / heart rate max / respiratory/ and time - have made it an invaluable tool while training.-

I have been training using the heart rate pro sensor - and the edge 1030.

It’s amazingly useful to work out real time effort - fatigue. Using the edge combo - i have been able to raise my heart rate max. It had been stuck for years at a certain max - and finally have been able to push past the barrier.

the only thing is - because it is a bike accessory- I can only set it up as a cycling activity- and then that means it breaks my cycling performance measurement - I have to change the activity type to workout - if I could create an activity that was not cycling - that would be awesome

  • I do not think it will happened. We need to understand that Garmin is trying fulfill market with more than one devices. If they will put all functionality in one device total sales number of devices will decrease. Which manager will go in this direction?

I suppose we will stay with separation for: wearables (Fenix, Marq etc.), EDGE (1030, 830...) and handheld (GPSMAP, Montana, etc.).

  • Sitting in my living room I have monitored my heartrate for a while with my Edge Explore wearing a chest HR strap. GPS was disabled (Off) on the device. After the monitoring period (used the Start / Stop button) the activity was synched to Garmin Connect (web) using Garmin Express on my PC. Garmin Connect registered the activity as a workout. I think the trick is having GPS Off.

Correction: my memory wasn't that accurate... In Garmin Connect the activity is flagged as 'Indoor Cycling' but you can easily change the activity type to - for example - 'Cardio' and Event Type to 'Fitness'. In this way it does not disturb your cycling statistics.
