Garmin keeps avoiding ferries

My garmin edge 1030 plus keeps avoiding ferries. No matter what I try.

This is very frustrating as I live in Santpoort in the Netherlands.

Trying to navigate to Wijk aan Zee, the Garmin is routing me via the bridge on the far east of Amsterdam!!!

See the screenshot below....

There are about 4 ferries in between, which the garmin could have chosen.....

Offcourse I disabled avoiding anything and I even tried to set it to pedestrian but nothing worked.

We are aware that ferries are causing routing issues in the 2021.10 EU cycle map in some instances, and we are working to resolve this in the next update. We apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime…

And a more zoomed in version, where there is a ferry at the marker....

What map are you using?

If you zoom in on the map as far as you can, do the ferries show? If the ferries do not show then it is possible they are not on the map and therefore the Edge 1030 Plus will not see them.

If the ferries are not on the map you are currently using, you could try one of the third part Open Street Map based maps that has routing available (not all do).

Are you using the standards maps? I use the OpenFietmap maps and can create your route fine, using the ferry. See screenshot. You can find the OpenFietsMap here: http://www.openfietsmap.nl/downloads/bnl_full. Install them and disable the built in maps. The OpenStreetMaps are much more detailed and up-to-date.

From the home screen:

Settings (3 horizontal bars) -> Activity Profiles -> Road (whatever) -> Navigation -> Routing -> Avoidance Setup -> Ferries -> disable.

yes thanks, this indeed works and the maps are much better! But I think it is very stupid that when you buy such a device that their own map is not able of routing correctly.

If you zoom in close enough, you should see a line indicating the path of the ferry. If there is no line, it wouldn't able to route through it.

It should work. The issue could be that the maps aren't being compiled correctly. Garmin is using the same data that the other maps are using.

I'd call Garmin and bring up the issue that way.

I do not currently have a timeline, but I will see if I can track one down.
