Hello, today the device restart itself within activity without following a track.

The only connected devices were the Garmin HRM dual, the Stages G3 Dual Crank, Left and Right power meter (Shimano R8000), and the Shimano D-Fly handles. I think a very standard setup.

The first time were calibrating the power meter.

The second time were during a ride, no specific action.

The third time were exactly the same, it seems the power went to ZERO before the crash.

Perhaps the problem is related to the power meter connection (I mean for the first crash -calibrating- and the third -power went to ZERO during 5 seconds before crash-) just my two cents thinking.

Attached the two first coredumps, but today (July 3rd) did not leave any coredump, but I put the err_log_5.txt file

If anyone can help will be wellcome.

Manuel.

  • To add piece of information, after restart the GPS fix took more than 10 minutes. The restart itself were somewhat quick, after that I push start again the same activity but the unit does not FIX the GPS for more than 10 minutes (I was moving as I did not stop of course, it was a 6 hours ride).

You can see that from 2:00:50 to 2:10:13 there were not speed due to no GPS lock.

My old 1030 make the GPS lock even when moving (if got a first fix within the day) in no more than 1-2 minutes maximun.

  • Today I did a total factory reset including data deletion. Let's see if this solve the issue.

  • Yesterday I have a restart again. As the last time activity was not lost, but after restart the GPS fix did not work during 10 minutes (from minute 20:60 to minute 30:35). In order to make it work again I have to change manually to NO GPS and again GPS+GLONASS (the previous setting was GPS+GALILEO). After that change found GPS signal again.

Activity for the interested people:  connect.garmin.com/.../7160136575

The restart was quick, whithin minutes, all sensors were found without issues, but GPS was stuck during 10 minutes (you can see the map, clear view of sky).

This time was with the MTB, which have a different power meter -ROTOR- so it is not related to power meter, as I was guessing.

Please can anyone have a look or help on this? is very anoying and frustating getting the device restarting with no reason. I was not following any route, as last time.

Attached errorlog.bak and errorlog.txt files found on device. No coredump file found this time.8540.err_log.rar

  • My brand new unit has done this once. Same exact behavior. Mid ride, the entire computer locked up. Sensors stopped functioning, elapsed time stopped, screen was unresponsive. Rebooted on its own, resumed the ride, all sensors except GPS were back online immediately. GPS didn't take as long as yours to come back, but the delay was considerable.

  • i9 had this problem today, lost connection to sensors, assioma duo power meter and rtl515,then when it restarted it had taken some time to get gps fix for speed

  • My Edge 1030 plus crashed for the first time during activity. It is running FW 5.20.

Possibly not related but the difference with my other rides is that this time I did not turn off Wifi on my phone which I usually do. The crash happened while entering a residential area and then my phone may give priority to Wifi i.s.o. LTE. My operator has a huge network of home networks turned into Wifi hotspots and as soon as the phone sees one it may pick it up but then immediately losing signal because out of range.

I have had earlier issues with livetrack when Wifi is still enabled on my phone then leaving home causing trying to start livetrack while still in range of my home Wifi network but immediately losing signal and switching to LTE.

So probably not related to the crash but I only wanted to mention this as it is the only difference compared to all my other rides, so you'll never know if it helps debugging the issue.
