Software Update 4.10 to 5.00 1030 Plus Failing

Garmin Express says software version is 5.00. Device says 4.10 and keeps prompting me to install 5.00. I say yes and it just turns off and back on with same screen to update the software. Also went to About screen on device and tried to update it from that page and it does same thing. Pics attached.

    Here is an answer from  from another post with same issue:

    It might just be that there is an error in the GarminDevice.xml file.

    If you delete the following 2 files from the Garmin folder the Edge will rebuild the next time it powers up,

    Device.fit
    GarminDevice.XML

    Thanks  I saw that posted in another thread and already tried, as well as delete the file in Garmin\RemoteFiles directory. It rebuilt the .fit and .xml files and reloaded the update file but it still won’t update

    Check that there is nothing in Garmin\NewFiles folder

    Thanks . There were several files stuck in NewFiles. I deleted. I also deleted the device.fit and Garmindevice.xml files again at the same time. In the corrected directory name from one of my earlier reply to mcinner1 the Garmin\RemoteSW directory has this file: 006B295407.GCD dated 3/3/2021. I have deleted this file as well and it returns when I reboot it - I suspect through wi-fi or bluetooth.  I ended up turning those off, deleting that file also and only using Garmin Express to update. It appears to go through update process and says successful on computer, however, I am not prompted on device to complete the process. I then went to System - About on device and tried to install from there. It turns off for few seconds and back on (not the 2 minutes it says it will take) and remains at v4.10. Garmin Express says 5.00, from pictures in my OP but all of the screen shots of the device show otherwise. thanks for any help you may provide.

    Could post the GarminDevice.xml here on in private message to me. I would like to take a look at it.

    was able to provide me a solution by backing up certain directories, resetting the device, installing update, and moving certain files back to the device. Thanks again
