ClimbPro switches climb profile on start

I've noticed that when using a predefined route created in strava the profile on the cimbs route info and on the approach to the climb on the climbpro screen corresponds to the smooth elevation that strava provides but as soon as the climb is started it switches to something that I'm assuming is generated by DEM. I've noticed this consistently during my last three rides. Did anyone else notice this as well and if so is there a fix for this?

  • I noticed something similar. Made a tour in Strava synced it by Gqrmin Connect. Sometimes the climbs started 400m to late. It looks like it was shifted.

At home I exported the Strava tour and imported it in Basecamp and noted the Edge 1030 was function well, there was an error in the file. It looks like the profile wasn't synchrome with the route.

I have to investigate further but it looks like a Strava issue.

There's a simple solution.: draw your route in.basecamp.

I'm using strava because it's the only route-planning software that's using the data from barometric altimeters and as such gives much more accurate profiles for climbs. The data that comes from DEM is mostly complete rubbish.

In any case your problem sounds nothing like the problem I described so I don't think these two are related.

  • It should be using the data provided by Strava. There was period when Garmin did insert some data when the course was downloaded, but they stopped that back in April. So if the course was created since then it should be good.

  • This is definitely not working anymore in this way, it switches on the climb start - it happens like clockwork and it's 100% repeatable on my device. I'll take some pictures next time.
