Strava Segments

Hi,

I cannot seem to get this to the work in the same way it worked on my old edge 530. I have linked accounts, I am a summit member and the starred segments have downloaded to the device. Is the only way to get starred segments to work on the 1030+ to plan a route in strava containing the segments and then follow it as a course?

I seem to remember them popping up without the need to plan a course on the 530. Very confused. I cannot seem to get this to work....

segments are not active during navigation. This is a real drawback of Garmin devices. With my previous Mio, I was able to ride segments during navigation. So why can't Garmin do that too?

This is what I thought so I tried the other day by not following the route. Starred segments still did not activate. So may conflicting statements on forums it is very confusing.

starred segments should activate when riding them without navigation. That's what I see on my 1030+.

Live Starred Segments do work if you are following a course created in Strava and then Starred so it auto syncs to your device.

Maybe, but I don't create my courses in Strava. I really would like the any segment is detected, whether riding them with or without navigation, and it should not matter if the course was created by Strava or any other tool :)

It's best to do the route yourself with Garmin Express.
From Garmin Express you upload it to Edge 1030 plus and you're ready.
There are a lot of videos on YouTube how does this happen.

I am wondering whether I need to try resetting the whole device as this definitely doesn't happen. Weirdly I can see the segments when I look on the map (they are highlighted by green lines).

Worked out the problem. As well as not working with routes that haven’t been planned in Strava they also don’t work if a workout is running in the background.
