Navigation Edge 1030/1030 plus

I would like it if there is the option that you can choose to get the overview map (normal navigation screen) instead of the detail map (turn screen), when you are riding a route. With the normal navigation screen you have a much better overview than if you only have the turn in the picture. Especially when the exits follow each other in quick succession. Thanks in advance.

  • On previous devices you could tap the map screen then press the zoom out and it would switch to the overview once you hit a certain zoom level.  I don't have a 1030, but I can't imagine they changed how that feature worked.  It seems to still work that way on my 830 which sits between the 1030 and 1030 plus.

  • Can you not set the "Navigation Prompts" to "Text" rather than "Map"

Menu>Settings>Activity Profiles>[Select Profile]>Navigation>Navigation Prompts. Then it does not go to the Zoomed in detailed map view but continues to show the normal map view. (noting that this is on my 530 as I am not fortunate enough to have a 1030) I think there is a video demo of this on a 830 by VeloGPS on Youtube.

PS On the 530/830 it also only "pops-up" the detailed turn page if you are on a data page, ie not the map, 1030 may be different?

  • So you don't want the normal map view all the time? You want to have all the data fields, and then when a turn comes up, you want it to go to the map page rather than a close up of the turn. Is that my understanding?

You can be in the map view primarily with 2 data fields at the bottom and disable any pop up. Then just swipe over for additional data fields as you want them? However, vice versa, not sure how to make a specific style of map view pop up when on a data field.

  • That's right. When I get to an intersection I want that the edge to go to the normal navigation map and not the close up of the turn. So I would like the full data screen and the navigation screen at the turn. And then back to the data screen. Can't be difficult.

  • Difficult or not, it’s not likely you will ever see that change.

There’s a custom IQ datafield that lets you have 4 or 6  datafiields on the map page. (It splits one field into subfields.)
