Hi, I wanted to buy Garmin edge 1030 but then I supposed that maybe Garmin is going to present a new model this season.
It's a faster CPU. The navigation software stuff works better. It has direction arrows (with the beta) showing route direction. It has a compass (which isn't crucial but still useful).
The temperature…
1030+ on the top, paired with the left light
Below is 1030, paired with the right light
The light flashes when the satellite signal is good
Into the tunnel (bad signal) solid state lamp
As a result, 1030 satellite…
They just released a new beta firmware for the 1030+.
The 1030+ is still new and it's significantly different (a faster CPU and a compass).
Every Garmin Edge unit I've ever had or talked with others about had the temperature problem. If the sun is shining on the unit, it heats up internally, often resulting in stated temps up to 10F degrees higher than actual. I don't think the 1030 was any different from the 705, 800, 1000, or the 1030+ in that regard.
As I recall, DC Rainmaker's review of the 1030+ showed comparisons of speed between the 1030 and 1030+, and they were quite noticeable. I remember waiting for my 1030 to find satellites, to the point that I would turn the unit on before putting on my helmet and sunglasses, just to give it more time. That has never yet been a problem with my 1030+.
Battery life is at least twice as good as the 1030. I was able to run the 1030 for as long as 24 hours between charges. I have run the 1030+ over 52 hours. Using the External Battery Pack, I have run the 1030+ for 140 hours.
The 1030 Plus was introduced at the same price as the 1030. The improvements are certainly worth the increase in price....
600€/$600 for this archaic device It seems like a joke to me, if you compare it with the technology that a xiaomi mobile carries for $100 for example. But since there is hardly any competition in this sector, we have to pay a piece of plastic with a horrible screen, and hardware from the 90s for a fortune... I would prefer a TFT screen and not 140h of use (I have a house and I like to go back to it ...) on Garmin screens on cloudy days or in winter I don't see anything.
1030 and 1030+ on a day-to-day basis, they are exactly the same (in my opinion, I have both).
The 1030's GPS is more accurate, but it consumes a little more than the 1030+ Sony chipset (which is correct and is more energy efficient)
When you test the screen of a Venu, then you don't want to go back to the others displays...
