Beta 4.18 - very slow turn by turn calculation (on my device)

Strange thing:
with beta software 4.18: no turn by turn calculation, no routing to POI, no rerouting on track deviation, no roundtrip calculation anymore - at least on my device.

Turn by turn calculation stops at 10% - on every chosen course.
Roundtrip calculation rotates for ever at „0“.
Navigation to POI or adress will not calculate.
I have tried it with different maps. Made sure, all needed img files are activated.

I did a factory reset - to no avail.

This is strange, because it seems it is only me (my device) - no one has reported this issue until now.

Just went back to v4.10 and now all is working as usual.

Edit:
it turned out that the calculation does work - but very very slowly. See later postings!

  • I've experienced longer calculation times (not as long as mcinner1 is seeing).

  • I can confirm this behaviour.

  • This may not fix your problem however on previous firmware upgrades I found I got calculation errors on some routes if they had been uploaded prior to the upgrade. Previously they worked. Delete and re-upload the route fixed the issue.

  • It's slow even with courses loaded after the update.

(You download courses to the device. You upload activities to Garmin Connect or some other computer.)

Anyway, it's very odd that, if the courses worked before, they stopped working after.

How are you downloading the courses? If you copy the file to \Garmin\NewFiles, the unit "converts" them (even if it's already a FIT file).

The conversion process is not doing much: it's converting a list of coordinates to a list of coordinates in another format.

Other download methods write the FIT files directly to \Garmin\Courses. In that case, no conversion is done (the files are used "as is").

I used the direct download method (direct from RWGPS), which means the files are the same regardless of the version of the Garmin firmware.

  • Interesting. I haven't noticed any issues with calculation, only the new visual scheme. Everything seems fine and quick (or slow?) as before. On many routes it is ok, but sometimes routes are black without any colors...
