Edge 1030 Plus has not updated to daylight saving time

I've read the tips for getting the GPS to acknowledge Daylight Saving Time; get a good satellite fix, wait, etc.

In Utah, Daylight Saving Time began on March 14th, 2021.  My Edge 1030 Plus has had ample time in the outdoors to get its time updated. Yet it still reflects Mountain Time instead of Mountain Daylight Time.  It is off by one hour.

There seems to be no way to set this manually. I suspect that a Garmin database simply has the wrong dates for DST in the Mountain timezone. But whatever the reason, is there anything I can do to get this change to be reflected in the GPS's time?

I've taken rides that are long enough to have given the GPS an opportunity for a good solid satellite fix. That just doesn't seem to make a difference in this case.

  • You can force it to download the latest time zone map.

Delete Garmin\gmaptz.img from the unit and then sync. This should force the latest version of the map to get installed.

    1. Deleted (well, just moved it to my laptop instead, so that I can put it back if I need to).
    2. Unmounted and restarted unit.
    3. Connected with Garmin Connect (Android)
    4. Initiated a sync from the Android app.
    5. (no change to time)
    6. Restarted device.
    7. (no change to time)
    8. Initiated a sync from Android again
    9. (no change to time)
    10. Restarted device again
    11. (no change to time)
    12. Connected to the computer again
    13. (the gmaptz.img hasn't been downloaded again)

I don't use the PC for syncing, I use my smartphone. Is this a case where I'm going to need to bite the bullet and boot my dual-boot Linux laptop to Windows and install the Connect software on a PC?

  • You can manually place the file on the unit.

  • Just a follow-up: I connected to a Windows computer and installed the Garmin software. It updated my maps, including the timezone database, and that solved my problem.

For most things it seems adequate for the Edge 1030 Plus to sync using the Android Garmin Connect application, as well as the Connect website. But for maps and time database updates it is still required that the Windows or Mac software be used.

  • Thanks, this was helpful and also resolved this for me in May 2022.   I'm not sure how long, but roughly with the change to DST here on the East Coast of US my time of day field was always showing an hour early, i.e. I'd go out for a ride at 7am and it would say 6am.    I thought it was a DST thing (sure hope we legislate that out), but couldn't find a setting anywhere.   So I turned to google and found this post.     I hadn't sync'ed new maps in a long time, maybe never, so I fired up Garmin Express on my Mac.   After it updated itself twice I connected my Edge device.   It told me that there was a map update, which took about an hour to install.   And sure enough, on my next ride out the TOD was showing the correct time.   As a bonus, I have freshly updated maps!      So thanks 2821995 for putting your follow up in place, it solved my problem as well!
