Garmin Edge 1030 plus, Route I'm following crashes when strava segment 'off course' appears even though I'm on course and segment?

My Garmin edge 1030 plus.  When a segment comes up, it says 'off segment 'and crashes the route I'm following, so I have to resart the route. This can happen 3 or 4 times in a 100k route?

I think its to do with a strava segment?  No idea why the segment thinks I'm 'off segment' though because I'm definitely on it and following the route?

Any thoughts?

Next up is turn segments off totally but that defeats the object of having the feature?

  • This happened to me today, I had 3 segments, the first was fine but navigation crashed on the other two and I had to restart the course. Noticed the ‘off segment’ message on the 2nd, not sure about the 3rd. These were Strava segments from a route created in Strava.

  • Yeah I'd say mine were from strava routes and strava segments as well.

For now,  I've just turned segments off to see if the route crashes. So far no issues.

Oddly, it's not every segment that crashes the route? And I'm not sure if it's a same particular segment every time.

  • This is the first time I’ve been organised enough to star the segments I’m interested in and then build the route so I’ve not really used it before. Mine were all hills, not sure if that makes a difference with ClimbPro in the mix too.

  • OK so yeah one of mine was definitely a Hill where Climbpro would have appeared.  However, the other wasn't, more a flat section.

  • Happened again to me yesterday, Strava hill segment from a course created in Strava.

  • I brought this same issue up last year with Garmin. They ended up replacing my device but is still happening unfortunately. It is very randomised but some segments are more prone to it than others. The off-segment part always results in a followed Course then quitting. To get the Course back I have to go back into the menu and reselect it.
Im guessing that the satellite fix must be poor because other riding colleagues using various head units from Garmin and Wahoo etc never seem to get the off-segment alert.
Definitely an issue for those of us who like to follow Courses that include Strava Live Segments.
