Incorrect Max 20 min power after updating Edge

I am getting incorrect max 20 min average power on Connect as in the image Max 20 min power < Overall Average (which is mathematically impossible). This is a trainer ride and there were no pauses. I am connected to Wahoo Kickr and only as an Indoor trainer (not as a power meter).  Strava shows the max average 20 min power correctly. Any idea how to fix it.

  • It's not imposible

If you ride for ex 30 min with 211 w avg, but from that a sequence of max avg 20 min lower with 202 w

  • But it is max. Let's say I rode the first 20 min at 202 W. The next 10 min will be at 229 W.

The last 20 min power will be 215.5 W which will be max. Max 20 min power is bound to be higher than the max 30 min power for a single ride.

  • It is hard to believe, but it is nevertheless perfectly possible mathematically (in theory) AND in practice.

Those among us that do intervals are probably already aware of this.

    Let me try to explain.

Imagine that you start with a high wattage. Say we start with 360 watts for 10 minutes. Then we get tired and we recover for 10 minutes with 120 watts. On average these 20 minutes were 240 watts.

Now we are recovered, we push for another 5 minutes with 300 watts.

The 25 minutes are now on average 252 watts, which is more than the 240 watts over 20 minutes.

However, there are no consecutive 20 minutes that give a higher average than 240 watts!

  • Yes. However that's not the case here. My power was smooth. Also when I take the max average on Connect for entire duration I get value leass than the average of the entire activity. Strava gives the correct average.

  • I have the same problem, I did a 90-mile ride, and once finished the Garmin stated that I had a new record, surely this can't be right?
