annoying that the battery power is not retained after a full charge, a few days going for a ride and power up to find the battery is virtually dead
Do you power the unit off? (That requires pressing the On/Off button until "Power Off" shows on the screen, and then pressing that button.)
I have never had that problem with Edge 705, 800, 1000, two 1030's, or my 1030 Plus.

Even in sleep mode there should not be a battery drain like this. I never turn mine off.
It is maddening as I am having the same problem the screen while the unit is plugged into the charger. the moment i unplug it the screen goes blank

Try turning it off. That at least may establish if there is a fault with the battery. Batteries can develop faults over time.
