Edge 1030 plus navigation alerts

Just purchased a 1030plus and was hoping to change alert to a distance greater than default of 0.1 mile.  Anyone know if this is a customizable parameter, and if so how to change it? I was hoping to change that alert to 0.2 miles or so.

  • No, it's not configurable.

The map screen shows the distance to the next turn.

You can also add that as a files on a data screen.

  • There is a sort of way to do it by using the Automobile Driving routing profile as it assumes you are travelling faster so gives the prompts earlier. However it's only really viable when following a downloaded course otherwise you might get some very unfriendly route choices for biking if navigating on the fly

Also if navigating on the fly the garmin maps don't work with the Automobile Driving profile so you would have to use 3rd party mapping for that to work or change back to using the Road Cycling profile

That is a great tip, thank you!  Have gone ahead and added "distance to next turn" on the main screen to help me anticipate it better.

Was not aware of the Auto Driving mode...may give that a try, but as you say, it may route me to more non-biker friendly roads which can be an issue in the Philly area (several roads can have no shoulders which I really try to avoid).  I will add the "distance to next turn' on my main screen which I believe will help me quite bit.  Many thanks for providing those insights.

  • Ge used to using the map page. When navigation gets complicated, the map is a big help.

I haven't found the 0.1 mile warning that much of an issue (except, maybe, when going downhill quickly).

The default Cycle maps don’t work for automobile routing.

You can get free maps that should work.
