Cannot Authenticate Maps/Cannot Unlock Maps

I connected my Edge 1030 Plus to my Mac this morning and saw I had 37 updates, including map updates. Trying to get that to work on the Mac was an exercise in futility and I read on the Forums that a lot of Mac users were not able to perform these updates. I fired up my Windows 10 Pro machine, connected the Edge, and everything updated with what seemed to be without problem. Until I disconnected. The Edge started then reported it couldn't authenticate the maps, followed by cannot unlock maps. I followed the suggestions on the Garmin site and tried to re-install each map individually. Each map reinstalled, yet starting the Garmin continues to give me those two messages.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm getting so tired of trying to update my Edge - my new rule of them is going to be if it's working don't mess with it. If I didn't have so much Garmin kit, I'd switch to Wahoo.

  • With 4.1 I could never get LiveTrack to work. Since v5 it seems fine, but now my rides no longer auto upload when finished, even though I have that setting selected. About once a week I need to delete and then add my WiFi network back, then it will work for a day or two then stop. Lather, rinse, repeat. But LiveTrack is a bigger deal, so I am happy as long as that is working.

Good luck with your new unit.

  • So it seems that Garmin made one thing better and 2 worse with the new FW. Wifi and connection to my iPhone works good. But the problem with the maps have also here in Germany not only I

Before I had a GPSMAP 66st, Garmin replaced it 5 times without successSee no evil. Hope that this will not become a never ending story!

    Best regards!

  • Maps seem to have been a point of frustration. I'm moving to Germany in January so I deleted all the maps off my device with the exception of the US and Western Europe.

I have to say that setting up my Karoo 2 and loading maps was much easier than Garmin. What I miss though is LiveTrack (I'm not yet willing to pay for a cellular SIM for a cycling computer), Windfield, and weather notifications. Here in Central Texas, the weather forecast is often inaccurate because the conditions can change rapidly. I like that I can get weather data and lightning strike data on my head unit without having to reach for my phone.

  • Yes the weather information are really useful. But here in the north of Germany the weather is not a big problem. If I make a day trip, it is enough to look the weather forecast in the morning on my smartphone. But it seems that the, weather situation here change the next years as you may be saw in the news.
