Cannot Authenticate Maps/Cannot Unlock Maps

I connected my Edge 1030 Plus to my Mac this morning and saw I had 37 updates, including map updates. Trying to get that to work on the Mac was an exercise in futility and I read on the Forums that a lot of Mac users were not able to perform these updates. I fired up my Windows 10 Pro machine, connected the Edge, and everything updated with what seemed to be without problem. Until I disconnected. The Edge started then reported it couldn't authenticate the maps, followed by cannot unlock maps. I followed the suggestions on the Garmin site and tried to re-install each map individually. Each map reinstalled, yet starting the Garmin continues to give me those two messages.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm getting so tired of trying to update my Edge - my new rule of them is going to be if it's working don't mess with it. If I didn't have so much Garmin kit, I'd switch to Wahoo.

Same here. Garmin 1030 Plus and Mac. Map updated tries 5x, all failed. Very bad implementation of Garmin, please fix.

You have installed to many Maps in the Moment. Delete some over the Filesystem and then Load only the Region you need.

Attention, don't delete the two African Maps, because there is no way to get them back. So better make first a backup from all IMG-Files.

You find the Map-Region, when you for example look with less in the IMG-File or open with TextEdit (but not save or change anything).

I only have the European map installed, all others are gone. And there is 16GB free.

What does this mean. How do I delete maps?

In Garmin Express when you connect the 1030+ it will give you an option to manage maps, in there you can add and delete countries

I have this problem since I made the update to 5.00. Also if I install the cards new nothing changes. I have only the European map installed. Garmin could not help. Also with new 5.20 update the message didn't go away.

I was never able to get this corrected. I spent several hours over two days with Garmin support (who were trying very hard to find a solution). I was not able to manage maps (add nor delete) through the Garmin App nor from the device itself. Garmin ended up replacing the unit for me. Once I received the new unit, the software and app updates proceeded flawlessly, so it seems there was something on my device seriously corrupted.

So far the new device has been fine. Still running on version 5.0, 5.20 has not made it out to me yet.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I had today also a long telephone support and they said me also to replace my 1030 plus. Do you also have the problem to send or receive routing data to/from an other edge?

I only have the 1030 Plus and a Hammerhead Karoo 2. I have noticed the Edge tends to be flakey when it comes to wireless connections, both Bluetooth and WiFi.

Seems so, but with 4.1 FW it worked, I hope for replace.
