Navigate back to start on MTB trail

I did a 7 mile MTB fire road ride today. At the summit turnaround point, I decided to navigate back to the starting point and follow the same route as I came up on. The 1030 plus seems to have taken my high precision  ride up (on a fire road that was on its map) and created a few dozen straight line segments back to my car. For the next hour down to my car on the only possible fire road trail, the 1030 plus would give me the turn tone about every 400 feet, even though there were no turns other than the connection between the few dozen segments the edge created. So while I was hoping to see the "distance to next' show me how many miles to a junction trail near the bottom of the fire road, instead it kept saying I had 400ish feet to the next turn. It counted down those 400 feet then started another 300 to 400 foot countdown, complete with turn alarms over and over and over. This feature was beyond useless. On a street ride it's fine though.
