New 1030 Plus, latest firmware -- updated today (11/26/2020), battery charged, didn't log gps track of my mtb ride today. Did I just waste $600?

My eyes now need something with a display big enough to see.  I ordered the giant, expensive 1030+ and have used it for a few rides (7 total).  Prior to today, it seemed to do an ok job or recording.  Now I'm Super angry from the perspective that I convinced myself to pay at the top end of the range, hoping for perfection.  At minimum, I expect to be able to press 'start' recording at the beginning of a ride and 'stop' recording at the end and come home and see the details of my rides.  Today, I would have been better off using my iphone/strava.  I have had 8 Garmin cycling specific units over the years and this is not the first time I have had trouble (screen lockups, altitude mis-calcs,...) but this is the most disappointing so far.

Over the years, Garmin has done some brilliant things.  Garmin, please lean back into quality control so that you don't push updates that disable gps tracking.

If I record another ride that skips the gps data series I will return this device and get my money back.  I have a few friends who are saying good things about the wahoo devices -- I really don't want to switch but I am beginning to feel like I'm trying to stick with a team that has given up on quality.

  • I've been running for a week. I've had no issues. I had no issues with the prior version beyond it crashing once.

If it was a general problem, we'd be hearing much more noise about it.

You are correct, there is another post entitled [ Losing GPS Signal]  that has 763 replies, .. In comparison, my post is over-worded and more about how upset I am at the situation than anything helpful
