Are strava live segments working for anyone following a course created in strava?

I just want to know if anyone has been able to get strava segments to reliably work when following a course that has been created in strava?

1) I have a strava premium membership

2) route created in strava

3) segment and route starred, segments are not downhill segments

4) both the route and strava segments show up on both the device and on garmin connect

Yet when following the course (under saved courses), I don't get live segments to pop up the vast majority of time.

If anyone can reliably get strava live segments to work (when following a course), then I will keep trying, uninstall, reset back to factory settings etc. Whatever it takes. Ultimately, if I can't get this to work, then i'll have to move to the wahoo system, that seemingly just works.

Segments do not work when riding a course. It's a major annoying issue with the Garmin devices...

I agree it would be helpful to see the FIT file from one of these successfully created coursed which include segments to better understand what is going on.

I find it very unreliable whilst following a Course created in Strava. On a course with about 4 or 5 Starred Segments...I’m lucky to get one start normally when I approach a Segment. Also, when a Live Segment does start, quite often after a few seconds I get the Off Segment message and the Live Segment stops...and another thing I’ve noticed is that once the Live Segment quits...then the Course that I’ve been following also stops a lot of the time.

I, too, have issues with live segments and my 1030. My experience is as spinderbundy describes in this thread. That is, segments load, they show on the segments list and distance away updates as you would expect. Then, as soon as the segment starts, the 1030 flips to segment screen but then immediately loses the course and all segment (and climb) information, including the active segment.

If I then reload the course, the upcoming segments and climbs reload until I hit the next segment and they are lost again. Interestingly, after the course info is lost, the segment finish still displays on the map view.

Would welcome any guidance on a path to resolution. Thanks — jay

I would like to see the FIT activity file from one of these rides. I wonder if the unit is losing GPS position as you start a segment.
