Ride With GPS synch/pin routes.

For all you Edge 1030 Plus people that used to 'pin' and send routes over to your device from Ride With GPS, but can't because there isn't an app in Connect IQ, here is a work around which I think is better.

The Edge 1030 Plus is relatively new and we do not have spec docs, so we have not been able to make a CiQ app for it.  You still have the option for transferring routes wirelessly through the Garmin Courses sync program. This will allow you to transfer routes wirelessly from your Ride with GPS account to Garmin Connect to this device.

To enable Garmin Wireless Courses Sync, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your account Connected Services page https://ridewithgps.com/settings/connected_services
  2. Click "Unlink" on Garmin Connect (see screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/vbQjYcE.png
  3. Click Link again to open the Garmin Connect settings page
  4. Once logged in, also select "Courses" as an option to be enabled for syncing
  5. Finish the setup for re-linking your Garmin Connect account auto sync.  https://ridewithgps.com/help/garmin-courses

Once this is set up, you can Pin any route you want to sync over to your device wirelessly. If you have pinned an item in the past, you will need to re-pin it, as only routes Pinned after this sync has been established will transfer over to your device.

  • Hi, yes this works the same as the Strava Routes Sync. The only problem with both the RWGPS & Strava auto sync is that the elevation data becomes wildly exaggerated by the time the device imports it and uses its own elevation data. There are a few threads about this particular issue in the Edge 1030+ Edge 1030 and also the Edge 830 forums.

  • My IQ app lets you download pinned routes from RWGPS.

  • Scoops1964, thank you a million times over! I'm a recent 1030 owner coming over from a Bolt. The Bolt is not a great navigator. That app, though! It seamlessly transfers routes from RWGPS to the Bolt without the first bit of fuss, and fast too! I've been looking for a way to do this with my 1030 and your method is the closest thing I've come across to be able to replicate the Wahoo experience. Again, thank you! I've tried both the RWGPS and Grouteloader CIQ app but neither will let you start a course after you've started a ride without stopping your ride and saving it. This doesn't work for me as I often ride to the start of a particular course and want to record my entire ride as a single outing.

There's a widget version of GRouteLoader that lets you do that.

  • How do I access a widget on the 1030? The manual mentions it only once on page 19 but gives no clue about how it works and where to find it, nor how or when it can be accessed.

  • Swipe down from any standard screen.

Your 1030 has some widgets installed already.

    Swipe up to hide them.

Swipe left/right to change between them.

(It's not obvious at the start.)

  • when I use garmin ridewithgps IQ app I just download the routes to the course library on the 1030.  I do not use the IQ app to start the navigation because of the issue you are bringing up.  So if you download all the courses you want to use and have it on the garmin device in courses, you can overwrite courses whenever you like

  • The RWGPS app isn't available for the 1030+.

(My app and widget is. It's available on many more devices than the RWGPS app.)

  • Also there is the Dynamic Watch / routeCourse apps.  It works for the 1030+ and wearables.  If you pay the small amount for the upgraded version you can control the speed of the Virtual Partner and also not include the cue sheet entries - which if you are using TBT can be annoying.
