Does anyone know how to delete a map from the 1030 plus?

Hi All,

I have a 1030 plus and I want to manage the maps - essentially, I want to keep EU only and remove NA/Africa etc.

Does anyone know how to do this? Through the headunit I can only disable a map, not remove it completely.

When viewing the files using my PC, I can see the large map files, but they aren't identifyable to the region by their name...

And express tells me to remove unwanted maps.... but doesn't allow me to, or indicate how I do this!

Am I missing something?

Any help is appreciated!

Just use a FileViewer. It is written in the first line of each file in plain text which file is which map. Then simply delete it (before ev. make a backup on the harddrive)

(Use a simple fileviewer without save-option. Never save a viewed binary file!)

The answer by "CRYCZYK 8 days ago" in the thread "https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-1030-plus/230112/garmin-express--continued-prompts-to-update-maps" is the actual solution - first reinstall the maps, then Garmin Express will allow you to remove them.

Thank you for this solution. I am wondering how I can install this maps again on my device if in the future I will need them?

In other words: if I delete this files manually from my device how I can download it again? Or should I backup it somewhere?

I believe you can do this via Garmin Express (the map management screen)

Backup it on the harddrive of your PC/Mac and when you need it, simply copy it back to your device.

Today I connected 1030+ to my Mac. I created backup of all files. After that I deleted two files related to AUS and NZ (gmapprom5.img and gmapprom6.img).

Before deleting this file Finder (File Explorer) show 3GB of free space. After deleting this files they disappear from file list but available free space not increase. I taught that I need to empty bin. After emptying bin I still have only 3GB of free space. So I thought maybe I need to restart device. It not solved problem.

So now status is: I have two missing map files (I have copy of them) and when I trying to copy them to device it say "Not enough space to complete operation".

Any idea how to solve it?

I did the same with my unneeded maps via PC and the free space on the Edge increased by the size of deleted maps.

Your problem must be Mac specific... maybe „hidden“ files?

Empty the garbage can.
