Anyone know and understand what this is all about?
MTB Map theme is a new feature of 1030Plus.
Edge Beta team answered my request what it is good for (because it makes the look of maps worse) as follows:
I had forgotten about the effects of the mountain biking map theme! In this map theme, the colors of other map features are muted to ensure that important MTB features are visible. This theme is only activated when you are in a mountain biking profile for that reason. Were you seeing the MTB map theme in other activity profiles? We recently added a toggle to enable/disable the map theme that will be introduced soon in a public beta and the next official release. Another option, although I haven’t tried it myself, is to manually edit the KMTF file to change the colors to your liking. There are some user-created online tools to help with editing that if you are interested.
The toggle is useful, because this map theme thing destroys the right looking of the maps. There are colors missing and there are details missing with map theme enabled (which is by default). The pictures below show map samples: left side with map theme enabled, right side disabled.
