Weather alerts totally off base

Not sure how the weather alerts are being captured but they are way off base. This morning I received at least four wind and gale warnings. Here is the problem, wind is less than 20 km and sky is cloudless.

According to online documentation, weather is handled by the Garmin Connect app. However, nothing is mentioned regarding where the weather is coming from. These warnings happen consistently during my rides ever since I got the 1030+. You cannot see within the Garmin Connect app where it is pulling the weather from. For all I know, it still thinks it is an Kansas and I am getting the Kansas weather warnings.

Anyone else notice all this fun stuff?

  • It seems to me like I get warnings that are semi-correct, but for conditions that might occur hours in the future. "High Wind" is the most common, but I'm not sure if our common 10-20mph wind is enough to be rated "high" Today I got a "Squall Warning" for the first time, which sounds more like a warning for boaters, but all we've got is a slight chance of thunderstorms in the next few hours.

  • That’s true maybe high wind means something different now.  Here in Quebec we’ve seldom had less than 30km/h gusts lately.

Squalls generally mean wind with rain.  I ignored those warnings once too many times.

That’s the problem though.  High wind warning may be accurate for later in the day or higher than some value but you don’t know.

  • Two things wrong, the bogus wind warnings, and the inability to turn it off in Garmin Connect because when you turn off the weather switch it just turns itself back on. Garmin says they can’t do anything about that. That was over a year ago. I’m a retired software developer, and that excuse is BS, which is why I’ve switched to Hammerhead Karoo 2.

  • The thing I hate the most is that you have to acknowledge the warning. it won't go away on it's own.

  • I’m a  software engineer and I don’t disagree with you.

    Disabling it should work.  period.
And my phone gives me weather alerts that are a lot more accurate. I’d be happy to just get those.

Garmin doesn’t seem very responsive to users in general.  Consider how long people have asked to disable the virtual partner.

You’re not the only one to switch vendors.

  • I just went through all the posts about this problem. I find it strange that I have never had a weather alert on my 1030. Do false alerts happen world wide or in a certain area?

  • Mine’s a 1030 Plus but dunno about others.

  • Mine is an 830 but I have friends with 530, 1030 and 1030 plus with the same issue.

Maybe it is location specific? We’re in Quebec and Ontario.

  • In IOS, the location for the weather alerts can be changed. Has anyone tried using a location that has good weather all the time. It defaults to the location of the phone.  The alerts come from the National Weather Service. I can't think of a way to block the service.

  • And British Columbia
