1030 Plus pause navigation question

One of the most annoying thing for garmin navigation is that when you are on the climb with many turns, and follow an route ,Edge  1030, but  I think is the same for rest of the devices, navigation generates turns, its very very annoying to be on the climb and to be prompted every turn that you have to go left or right  , or it will be prompted with navigation screen when you actually  on climb pro

With the pause navigation "functionality", this could be avoided? or there is another purpose for this option?

Can somebody test ?

Thank you

  • The pause navigation should work well in that scenario. I've used it when I'm deliberately going off-course but know what I'm doing and know how to rejoin course later, so don't want any form of recalculation that may affect the remainder of what I had planned.

  • I often turn off turn-by-turn navigation.  It'll still show you the course, but won't constantly be notifying you when to turn.  This problem actually gets more serious on other Garmin devices like the watches where the courses downloaded from Garmin Connect have these turns built in to the course.  When you down-load directly to the Edge1030+, these turns aren't in the course file, but generated by the edge.  This has always been a big issue for me on MTB rides and trail runs where there are a lot of sharp corners and switchbacks.

To turn off Turn-by-turn, go to the courses page, and click on the "hamburger" button in the lower right corner.  There you can turn off "Turn Guidance".

Extra tidbit: If you download courses to the computer instead of your watch, all the sharp turn "course points" aren't included in the course file.  Then copy the course to the Garmin\NewFiles folder on your device and you won't get all the warnings.  You can still add custom course points when you create the course and those will still be included.  So you put course points just where you really want to be notified.

  • Good advice. Interestingly, the fact the Edge generates the turn-by-turn cues is one of the best features in my view and what really sets it apart from other brands. Interesting how our usage of the device differs.

  • What are these numbers in the right bottom corner?
