Course elevation profile error

There is a strage behaviour.

Some courses are OK when I read them on Garmin Connect Mobile or Web Site.

But when I import them on my Garmin, using the Garmin Connect Mobile sync function, the elevation profile changes and the elevation gain and loss became greater of an order of magnitude.

It seems that, I don't know why, but on the Edge the same course has many little elevation terrain up and down following all the course.

I'm hoping it will be fixed soon. Thanks for the explanation that the export process overwrites elevation data with Garmin. What elevation dataset is Garmin even using? They should use the same as Strava is. Garmin's is so bad that when using a route passed from Strava to Garmin, while I was descending a long, famous 5 mile grade in southern California, up popped ClimbPro indicating I had a 3/4 mile climb while my grade showed a constant -5%. I don't recall seeing elevation dataset that bad since 2008.

I emailed Garmin yesterday re this issue. I’ll let you know what they say when I get a reply.

Cool but strava just advertise that they have changed the way that yhe routes are send to diffrent third party ,stared and imported automatically in GC, ride with gps etc

Also strava iq states that the app will be decomisioned from iq store..

The app is actually a Garmin owned app and not a Stava app. I'm sure Garmin will keep supporting it until this issue is resolved.

Yes, exact same problem. When Garmin Connect uploads from Strava, the elevation data is correct, but when it syncs with my Edge 530, the elevation increases by a factor of around 7.

This seems to have been fixed. I turned the feature on again yesterday, created a new starred course in Strava and then switched my Garmin on. Hey Presto, the course was there with an accurate profile, a believable elevation gain, and on the road ClimbPro worked beautifullly.

I was one of the original reporters of this bug, over on the 830 forum. I did another ride on a new course yesterday and all is good.

I'm still having the same problems, this is not fixed. It doesn't work even if you export the tcx/gpx file from strava (that include the correct elevation data) and import it in garmin connect course creator, it will override the elevation data. The only workaround that works reliably is putting the gpx file into the newfile folder manually on the device itself.

If you use the Strava to Garmin Connect integration it is fixed as that process leaves the elevation data untouched.
